i'm putting on a 3" ome lift, 18" rims and 285/65/18 tires next week. for anyone else running this setup, how far off is your speedo, and if you got your speedo corrected how did you go about it. Can toyota fix recalibrate the speedo?

My speedo jumped off by 3mph just from switching from 245s to 265s, so I know 33s will put if off it for sure. As far as recalibrating, I have no idea lol.

Edit: It was off by 3mph from the factory with stock tires (according to my gps), and switching to 265s corrected it. Now it's dead on.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I went from a 265/70 16 (30.6") to 255/85 16 (33") and at 65 on the speedo I am doing 70 mph. At 30 on the speedo I am doing 33 mph. I verified this on construction zone radar. My findings were spot on with this

So really...going up in tire size makes my odo roll slower lol
i guess 3-5mph is really nothing to worry about though. I know they do make a unit for recalibrating but i forget what it's called and it cost about 200 plugs into the obd2 and you just plug in tire size and it fixes it

My TRD sport is 3 weeks old, stock, and the speedometer is 3 mph off, less than it should be. Verified by GPS & road speed digital sign!
Never had this off before with any other car, but I'll not bother to take to the dealer... May save from a ticket one day... :)

Mine is off by about 4-5mph. I have GPS mounted in my truck and it tells me my speed.

i've had stock tires and wheels and tried that gps thing and that isn't that accurate either. My point of view about it is, "don't know, don't care". one less thing to worry about or cloud my brain with.

Time for Hypertech's inline speedometer calibrator.

i had to get my first tacoma speedo recalibrated once. the dealerships dont do it themselves but they should be able to tell you who they have do it. i went to the place the dealer used and got it done for $50. only took about 10 min.

my tacoma doesn't have 33's, but i did have a ford ranger with 33's and the speedometer was off by about 5mph at highway speeds. i never had it re-configured or anything, i just always kept in mind that i was going 5mph faster when i saw a cop, lol. i only got pulled over once for it and the sheriff actually let me go because he said that he understood that the bigger tires threw off the speedometer. so if it was me, i'd save a couple hundred bucks and just keep in mind that i am going a little faster than what it says.

When i went from 4.10 gears to 4.88 with my 235/85/16 tires my speedo is off by 15 at 60mph. So way off! I'm going to call the dealership and see what i can do.

Sorry but they can not help you. Hypertech has a spedo callibrator that works very well. It adjusts for tire hight and regearing. Average price 250.00. Check Jegs and summit racing.

ya im hoping they can direct me to a shop that can do it for 50$ instead of paying 250$ for the tuner.

I have been turned down by 8 dealers they just simply will not do it. They claim the sensors must be replaced along with the ABS tone ring(tells comp how fast you are going). I went to school and passed electronic controls with flying colors an what I learned is most computers today are tuneable but the dealers are simply not allowed due to liability. So instead of saying that they give us a bs answer.

I have 35's on and just installed the hypertech. It works perfectly. Easy install took 45 min. It's the only thing u can use to recalibrate besides getting a tuner. Toyota kept telling me there was nothing. 4wp told me about the hypertech and they wanted 350 installed. So I found it at autoanything for 200 and installed myself. Gotta save that money lol

According to my GPS, with stock tires my speedo was off about 3 mph at 70. When my speedo read 70, my GPS read 67. According to the tire size calculator here, , my speedo with 285/65/18s is slow by 4.62 mph now, so I'm guessing that when I'm showing 70 now, I'm doing about 72 actually. I haven't checked it with the GPS since I went to the bigger tires.

Mine was off by 13 mph with my 35's. So when I was going 70 I was really doing 83. Oops!
