Hollywood: where everyone is running around with empty chambers and sometimes bullets somehow vanished from a previously loaded chamber somehow.

I'm told a pump action shotgun sounds intimidating too, but you won't catch me walking around looking for an intruder with an empty chamber. That's for sure lol. I'm also not one to pump perfectly good rounds out on the ground just for dramatic effect either lol.

this was a joke btw...before anybody gets their panties in a wad.

it's just always cracked me up how gun nuts not only expect everyone to agree to everything gun wise they do, but that they also have to be ridiculous experts about them.

Explaining "empty the clip" to a woman with little to no gun experience is much easier than explaining "empty the magazine" also. Not to mention, when it comes to self preservation and actually staying alive, shouldn't it be about simplicity rather than accurate verbiage?

agreed, but gawdforbid say the wrong word around a gun nut lol

"I was holding the handle on the gun"
    gun nut: "you mean foregrip"
"yeah that, so I was holding that and the trigger handle"
    gun nut: "you mean grip"
"yeah that, I had just loaded a new clip into it"
    gun nut: "you mean magazine"
"STFU YOU ASSHAT YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN"

hypothetical example...but you get it lol

yeah I get that, but it's ok to have a misunderstanding of words. as long as you know operation/safety/proper use it's fine. you don't have to be a damn expert to own a gun like most gun nuts seem to expect lol

Your same argument can be made to the non-car person who goes to the mechanic with a problem with their car, and can't explain it correctly.

Quoting you, "as long as you know operation/safety/proper use it's fine." Part of that is knowing what things are called.

I know I am being serious in a BS thread, and probably shouldn't bother, but guns are a serious subject.

not really though, because you can go to a mechanic and say "this thingy is making noise" and they'll be like "oh that's your alternator" or your fan or whatever. they don't expect you to know it.

nobody is saying guns aren't a serious subject, but knowing a clip vs. a magazine is not a serious matter.

My wife and I used to shoot 3gun competitions at our local Goodyear range. We are also into 3D archery, long range 600M+ shooting and are very capable of drawing, firing, clearing and reloading again. We've taken a few gun classes in our lifetimes and train often. I pity the fool who breaks into my house, not because of me, but because of my wife and kids, who are all very capable of shooting in MOUT environments. If someone is stealing from my truck, I'll do my best to hold them at gunpoint while calling LEO, but I won't kill anyone over stealing something from our vehicles. But if you're in my house, then you're just as good as dead.

lol you're right. I mean I correct folks grammar all the time, well spelling mainly...just because, but I don't expect them to be experts.

it was a joke really, but it's also factual that folks that are super duper gun nuts are just like going to have a brain aneurysm if you say the wrong word.

I know how my pistol works, I know how to operate it, I know how to use it safely, clean it, shoot it, etc etc....no I do not know what every piece is called.

Your 14 year old daughter also had a dad in the military for most of her life and was around guns her whole life. Not a 60 year old woman that is medically disable school teacher, that was never around guns growing up or lived alone or ever really had a need to know that sort of information....

I have an 870 that is my home defense weapon. First shot is #7 small game. You come in my house ill put you on the floor with that, 2nd shot is 2 3/4 HV hollow point slug. Ill end you with that one. In my house i will not ask questions, you will first wish you were dead from the small BB's then i will make your wish come true. In the yard ill ask you to leave once, and only once.

I thought everybody who grew up in Alabama learned about guns and shooting. I certainly did.

We weren't called "gun nuts" back then - just good ol' boys, growing up to be men, living life.

I guess today's generations didn't have that quality of childhood.
