3rd Gen BHLM and light mods

I was going to hold out for Meso to make another batch of Stage 2 side markers, but the Stage 1 looks pretty damn good in action

 

Which DRLs are you running?

I am thinking about switching to DD’s because the color is slightly off and the driver is slow on the ones I am using. Just not super excited about pulling them back apart. Also the DD’s have been on backorder for months.

 

I’m not a fan of chrome, but the contrast looks good with the black side marker. Looks like you painted it too

 

The DRLs are the Diode Dynamics ones. So far I’m happy with them, but obviously yet to install them on the truck.

I like the look of the 4Runner lights which is the look I was going for. I’ll install them and see how I like them. And yes I painted them gloss black. They were kind of a pain in the ass to get smooth, but I’m not complaining, they look fantastic

 

I will admit.. I did leave some chrome in my wife's T4R headlights. But only in the critical light reflecting areas

 

Hey dudes, here's what I've been working on for my headlights. Did a quad retrofit, but the problem that I ran into was the little secondary projector was flush against the stock bezel which made aiming the headlights difficult.

The solution is to integrate them into the stock bezel using ABS sheets, epoxy, and a minigatling shroud. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and the little imperfections kinda drive me crazy. Getting it to be flush and smooth is pretty well impossible when using a filler in such a tight space. Been toying with the idea of designing something to 3d print to throw in the spot where the high beams used to go instead, but it would be tough to pull off. The areas that are uneven probably won't be visible unless the light is just right anyways, but I take satisfaction from doing a job right.

Anyways, input is welcome as always. I think they'll look pretty stealthy once they're done! Going to use Diode Dynamics for the DRLs/Switchbacks -- those things are BRIGHT. Very happy with their output.

 

Looks great! How are you aiming/adjusting the 2nd projector?(stock high beam screw?)
It is a little tricky getting the 2nd bezel in there. I was OCD and wanted the exact same shroud as OEM so I sacrificed another set of headlights just to harvest the bezels

Thanks! You can bet your ass I was taking notes in your headlight build thread. I would have loved to do dual 3" but cutting out the back without a way to reseal it with a custom part like you did sounded like a bad idea. So these 2nd projectors are just highbeams. I didn't want to deal with leveling 4 cutoffs, and the RX350s are plenty bright, so I aimed these where I wanted the high beams to go, then tightened down the bolts and kinda went from there. I hollowed out the back of the minigatling shrouds so there's some wiggle room back there but not a ton.

 

Anyone have a spare RH rear housing they’d like to part with? Totally butchered mine during the permaseal removal process.

Maybe not technically in the right thread but kind of close… I’m thinking of ways to mount ballasts without drilling/3m sticky tape/Velcro/zip ties but hidden and using pre existing holes.

I think I came up with something but had a couple questions
Material- would it be worth using aluminum or just plain steel? (It’s just a roughly 4x4 plate with a 90degree tab)
And I’m not sure how to make this happen- a online service or try to find a welder/fabricator. Just looking for a couple ideas of where to look.

I would try to do it myself but Don’t think I can do the 90 degree part. And I have seen other ideas of mounting locations but I kinda like my idea of it actually works.

 

^ I think you are over complicating it. While it would make for a clean install, it’s not necessary. The resistors have

$7 3M VHB 100x200mm~ (4" X8") Double Sided Foam Adhesive Sheet Tape 5952 Automotive Mounting Industrial Grade Very High Bond 5952 (1 Sheets 100x200mm)

3M VHB which(If surface is prepped Correctly) will stay on very well. But, you can always got with some aluminum Z bar and mount the resistor to that, then drill a hole in the material and mount to an existing bolt in the tail light cavity.

 

It would be in the engine bay hidden… I don’t have your stage 1 tails yet

Has anyone had the permaseal stick to the lense? My first light was a breeze the second took me around 3 hours to get apart. It was fullllll of permaseal and a ton of it stuck to the lense. I’m not having much luck getting it off of the lense. Any tips?

 

I just finished cleaning my first lense. Used a heat gun to soften the permaseal and rolled it off with my fingers.

 

Thanks man I’ll try it. It did seem to work a lot better when it was warm. Just going to be hard without touching the lense. This light literally took about ten 10 minute reheats at 300 to get apart. First light was 280 for 10 didn’t even need a reheat.
