Okay, I'm no expert. But, a friend of mine told me his new Mercedes, only requires an oil change and tire rotation, once a year. I know newer vehicles require less maintenance. But, that seems a lil far-fetched. IDK... Of course, he is the same guy that told me his car didn't have a thermostat.

^On paper your Tacoma requires an oil change once a year or every 10,000 miles if you use synthetic 0W20 oil. What's the difference? :notsure:

Yes modern cars require less maintenance through the use of more expensive fluids and consumables - synthetic oil, WS transmission fluid, SLLC coolant, etc.

One aspect that hasn't improved is brake fluid flush interval. On 2nd gens it was every 4 years. On 3rd gens it's been reduced to every 3 years.

Oh okay. I knew 10,000 miles on an oil change. Didn't realize it was "or once a year".

^Does the Mercedes have automatic engine start-stop? If so it probably has an electric water pump that can turn at variable speeds. Maybe a thermostat can in fact be eliminated from the design (just turn the pump slowly when cold).

Oil change I could see depending on how much it driven.
    Tire rotation the same.
But if the car had less than 2000 miles I wouldnt rotate

My parent's POS GLK350 gets it's overpriced oil change 1 per year due to mileage driven. No idea on the thermostat. Hell, I don't even know if there's an actual engine under the hood with all of the covers.

This was on a different vehicle. About ten years ago. I think a Honda.
