Mine's a 3rd gen, but door locks and handles haven't changed much. I'm digging into my year and a half old memory. My biggest concern is that the actuator is metal on metal. If the actuator fails it's nothing to find a replacement. It's the same thing as any aftermarket door lock add on. The plastic in the door lock are the rod locks and that's a Toyota thing.

I'm a heavy user of it because of my remote start. And I'm still problem free.

On another note: if anyone has issues with pick up from SOS I could serve as a backup. My folks live about 90 miles from them and I'll probably visit soon-ish.

I thought the issue was the actuator failing? That is a $5 part if bought alone. But if it fails, can you not use your key to unlock the tailgate?

I’m not well versed in pop locks. I just remember there was some plastic piece in the linkage that when it broke, your handle wouldn’t open the tailgate. Not unlock, but open. I thought that’s what he was talking about.

Gotcha. I will look at it when I install mine. Might be a way to reinforce it or replace with something better.

That is indeed what I was referring to. May have to hit up @Superman910 for his para cord trick.

Works very well especially considering the issues with pop lock handle breaking.

Amazing how much better proper mounts look over duct tape and bubble wrap. Who couldve guessed that?
