I typically see fuel economy increase once the temps are over 35-40 degrees, then again once summer fuel is back

Did a little googling, summer blend usually starts in April, to meet the May 1st government mandate. So I don't think we have summer blend just yet. So perhaps the warmer temp bumped up my MPG.

Or could it be the sweet 0W-20 Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy full synthetic I got from AutoZone for $27.99 that did the trick......

To get back on topic, I am really enjoying 04B04 1.05 91 base.

Likely because your truck gets to operating temp faster. MPGs are terrible until it does.

I get better MPG driving home from work than driving to work, usually because its warmer out in the day.

I'm new to this thread. Looking for information. Does a person need to get the TSB update from the dealer before installing the OV Tune software to maximize the OV Tune software?

Could the OV Tune software work just as great on a Taco that has not receive any TSB update from the dealer compared to a Taco that has the TSB update?

It is advisable that you update to 04B04 which is a pretty simple process which you can do your self following these instructions: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-alpha-release.495735/page-1094#post-18467047

But you do not have to if you have 04B02 or newer.

I'm definitely making this a priority now. Hopefully in the next month or so. Like anything else, I figured I'd just get use to it and drive the truck as it is... But as time goes, I actually really want to trade it in since it's so annoying.

My Cal was 04B03, and I was on the base 91 tune. I thought the base tune was great, but updated to 04B04 with techstream because I wanted to try the 91 performance tune. Don't have too many miles on the performance tune, but it is snappier and feels more powerful. It did do some weird things at the beginning, but smoothing out nicely now.

That said, if I didn't update to 04B04, and stayed on 04B03 91 base, I would still say it drives waaaaaaay better than stock with more power.

So after about 600 miles on the 93 performance tune with a completely stock '17 Sport I am still in love. In fact yesterday I got my first speeding ticket in 8 years lol. The only issue is tip in as others have said. Last week I nearly got t-boned trying to pull out into traffic in the rain because the rear would just spin and traffic was so heavy that feathering the throttle as I pulled out was a sure way to get hit. I still refuse to step down to the 93 mpg tune just for that one issue, but the wife will not be allowed drive the truck untill Matt can get enough time to put out a milder tip in performance tune.

I have had the weirdest issue with techstream that I have not been able to diagnose yet. I originally had 12.24 something and it worked fine. Decided to try installing the 13.something version before I did the TSB and it went to hell. No matter what I tried I couldn't get any 13 version to work. Uninstallled and used CCleaner to clean the registry files. Reinstalled the original 12.24 something version I had and everything worked again. Flashed the ECU from 03 to 04 with little problem and immediately after I have not been able to use TS. I keep getting "you need to register" errors every time I try to connect to vehicle. Uninstallled several times and used CCleaner to clean up the registry after uninstalls but nothing works. Somewhere there are still TS files that are screwing with me after uninstalling.

Haven't checked this thread for a while and have spent the day reading the last 80 pages to catch up. One thing stood out to me: STOP FLASHING EVERY 50 MILES. I cleared the ECU and TCU when I flashed to the performance tune and it took OVER 200 MILES for the transmission to begin shifting smoothly again and was nearly at 300 before it was to a point that I wasn't thinking about it anymore. You are just prolonging your frustration by being ADHD and making constant changes before the electronics have a chance to collect enough data to smooth things out.

Help I'm stuck on the very beginning steps. How would you find out what ECU calibration you are currently on with no tune yet.

I used an OBDII scanner to find mine. I paid around $100 for my scanner. Maybe someone can tell you of a cheaper one that will tell you you ECU

You can go to an auto parts store like Autozone and ask them to check for codes on your truck . Ask to see the ecu calibration . They usually do this for free .

The truck is dangerous in the rain, but worth it for the extra power... ok...
