The ultimate foglight upgrade H11 (not LED or HID)

I have one burned out currently so I don’t drive with them on anymore, but I would always leave them on. I have the fog light mod where they can come on anytime. I like the idea of this one, I’m just concerned with the life limits of these. I do all the driving for my shop so constant on so Texas summer temperatures are also a concern. I would go with the KC lights if it wasn’t an extra $100 bill on top of either option.

The KCs are more expensive for sure, but the quality is worth it IMO if going to LED. The will provide fuller and wider area coverage than the ORTown lights and they are backed by a 23yr warranty. The light color of the KCs is also better at 5000k vs the higher color temp of the ORTown. If driving with your fogs on all the time, an SAE J583 LED is going to be a better fit. Any of the halogen options have reduced life over stock. The halogen upgrade is really intended for use only when needed, not full time use. If you wanted halogen full time, I would go with the Subaru housing fog mod for stronger cut offs and run H9s which will provide the same output level but lower temperature. An H9 has a 250 hour life span which is about 1/4 that of an standard H11, but H9s are inexpensive. I do think the KC G4s would be the best option for you.

Yea I’m leaning towards the G4 now. I’ve reached out to some friends to see what their cost is on them.

I’m going to try to rewire the body plug for 14ga wires to make a plugs and play H9 harness.

I unfortunately will not be able to have night driving impressions until September (summer in Alaska!) but knowing me it will probably take me nearly that long to get everything installed the way I want anyway!

Edit - just realized this is a second gen thread, so the body harness plug info may not apply...

 

After I did the “anytime fog mod” to allow on/off control of fog independent of the headlights; Installed the DEAUTOKEY plug n’ play LED fogs on my ‘14 Taco. Long/short: 1) much brighter while maintaining factory light pattern / beam. 2) Wicked easy install. 3) the three color single bulb is pretty dang neat

 

Well my lamps from China aliexpress showed up today, right at almost a month. I was tracking the cargo yak on google earth until I lost it in the mountains. Anyway I’ll get them installed in the 4Runner fogs tomorrow.

 

No legitimate lighting company sells such a product for street use, the pattern is not at all like stock. You have introduced significant glare. LEDs in halogen reflectors already cause significant glare, attempting to place multiple chips in the center portion for multi-color support means neither is placed correctly and only makes it far worse. The only legit use would be needing the strobe function for a street-side work vehicle, but then the LEDs should not be run on the street due to hazardous glare. Don't believe me? Ask the manufacture if they are SAE compliant. This post might help shed more light on the issue:

Almost exactly 1 year ago I met with Rigid reps to propose building an SAE amber or selective yellow fog. You can see my preproduction prototype comparison here.

Was redirected here for 3rd gen headlight (H11) seems obvious that the GE +130 H11 is the best choice for low beams- what’s the go to for high beam H9 for PnP better output than stock bulbs? Thanks

Best options are the Hella H9s or German Philips H9s with triming the internal tab for plugging an H9 into the H11 plug. If wanting purely plug and play the GE xenon +120 H11 is slightly higher performing than the GE Megalight +130 H11, but cost a significant premium.
