Isn't the 91 and 93 tunes where the power bumps really happen? You have to offer a couple choices here because 93 and 94 are not easily located, esp if out on a trip, right?

 

I would try that if we had anything higher than 91 where I live!

So, I’ve been OVTuned for a couple weeks now. Still loving it. But after the new ness has worn off, I find that it still hasn’t cured all my downshifting woes with this truck. But I have been paying more attention lately and at least know the issue I’m having... hopefully I can explain it well. For the record, this issue may not even be something Mat can fix, I don’t know.

The accelerator pedal has dead spots, but the issue for me is that they come an go. This is what makes the truck so tricky. Here’s an example, say I’m cruising at 30mph in 3rd gear and approach a turn which I want to downshift to 2nd and take at around 12-15mph. Riding 30mph in 3rd, the accelerator is depressed say ~1” (maybe not accurate but just for this explanation).

Going through the turn when releasing the clutch after having downshifted to 2nd, all the sudden the pedal has a dead spot for the first ~0.5”-0.75” of movement. Of course this all happens in just a few seconds so sometimes I can’t correct and end up releasing the clutch with no gas given and there’s an audible CLANK from the transmission that I obviously want to avoid.

The shitty thing is if I am IN GEAR, there’s no dead spot on the pedal. So this is what throws off I think where my foot “naturally” goes to on downshifts. I know where I expect the pedal to be because I know how the truck drives in gear very well, but through downshifts there’s always dead spots and my foot position has to correct. Does anyone else have this issue? Is it me or the truck, honest question?

Even more annoying is that when you move through the dead spot, it’s like the truck remembers and then makes up for all the missed travel immediately: as in, it’ll sometimes rev high and I’ll have to back off the pedal. So. Fckn. Annoying.

 

You are not alone, throttle response when trying to rev match on downshift has always been tricky. It's much better tuned, but still inconsistent. It most certainly depends on how fast you are going.
Bottom line, I'd like a throttle that reacts exactly the same every time I disengage the clutch, regardless of speed. It should be just as snappy as it is when stopped, clutch in.

Not dogging on Mat, but this is one of the reasons hands on testing with a M/T truck is needed.

 

Thanks for the response, I agree. This tune is worth the money already and a huge improvement over stock but I do look forward to the day when Mat gets caught up with the craziness that has followed the tax sale/FM release and has the time to put an MT on the dyno.

Off the lot, this truck is ‘I wanna drive straight into a lake’ level of inconsistency. Tuned, better, but still a lot to be desired and I think for me personally I notice it the most trying to downshift particularly into 2nd.

 

Your not alone on this. I have the same issue and I'm running the 87 FOB tune. It's like I have to concentrate to not get the clunk and the rpm flare is wearing thin.

Have you noticed any preignition?

 

I’m running 93 FOB but am going to flash to 91 today but keep 93 gas in her and see how she does. But yup exactly man it takes legitimate focus to not get the clunk lol and sometimes I still f it up.

What does preignition mean?

 

Preignition is pinging. Sound like marbles rattling in a tin can. It usually happens at low rpm when your lugging the motor.

Preignition is a very bad thing and will result in engine damage if allowed to continue. Try running a higher octane fuel or change your tune.

 

Do you mean the inconsistency that is currently present in the throttle is dangerous?

 

until we can properly address how the throttle is modified per gear / speed / nuetral.. there is not much that can be done. These tables, logic and scenario exists in the stock calibration.

We are already working on that, it was posted in here a while back. Manipulating code takes time. Regardless of having a test truck or not.

 

I am thinking about getting this tune but its painful to read through all of the pages of off topic posts. Can anyone point me to a video or post that sums up the user experience well? And yes, I have already read the lastest original post but I am looking for quantitative data and not just word of mouth. Thanks.
