Maybe there's a pre-existing picture on twitter (s)he can use to demonstrate what happened?

RIGHT! I got a 2nd opinion to rebuttal the dealership as they are only looking at the end results and not the underlining issue. In his opinion the axle malfunctioned or was the weak point. It should not have broke and is the cause of all the damage.

My question is what would even cause that to happen? Normal driving conditions?

For the month of February the truck made over 20 trips to the snow on steep logging roads in Oregon. No excess 4-wheeling other than maneuvering through the roads nothing off those paths either. The truck was engaging in 4-wheel during that time fine. The recent storm at the end of Feb we got 2' of snow at our house. We don't normally have snow at our 850' elevation. We turned around in our driveway 3 point turn and proceeded to town. Only to realize the truck wasn't in 4-wheel even tho the light was on. We made a warranty service appt, finally with clear weather we were able to make the hour trip to the dealership. Truck broke down on I5, drivers side underneath was damaged, had to be towed. The dealership is saying that the truck was used in a manner it wasn't designed for, which is a stand answer for them to not cover warranty repairs. When the axle broke on I5 the steering had to be pulled sharp to change lanes and get to the shoulder, therefore the dealership mechanic is saying we had the wheel turned too sharp and caused the damage.
2017 Tacomas do have a recall for CV boot leak as well as a rear dif leak. Since the dealership is stuck on all the resulting damage they are failing to see there might have actually been a week point in the axle due to the leak!

Is your VIN under the recall? Or do you have any evidence of what your claiming causing the week point? Leaks from diff or CV?

Negative we have no proof and still working with my case manager on recalls on my Vin. Being the truck was towed from Interstate 5 over 45 miles from home and not off a logging road would mean we didn't do anything to cause the axle to break. There must have been a weak spot in the axle. I'm just thankful one of our kiddos wasn't driving it at the time!

What are the odds of the CV being weakend before this instance ?

That's unfortunate you're having such issues. I've had none doing trips and found it to be plenty capable between the A-trac and locker

The wheel wasn't turned too tight during the 3 point turn. Its not like we drove it like we stole it!

Judging from your previous posts, I'm not sure you understand what that means.

I believe the CV boot was leaking causing the joint to fail. Then any maneuvering/ turning would have caused the axle to break. Hindsight is crystal clear, should have inspected the under cage prior to making the trip to the dealership. At the time we only suspected a minor 4 wheel drive fix. If we only had the leaking book with a fracture in the axle might not have to jump through all the warranty hoops.

I'm assuming it's tricky for them. For every one legit case they probably have 7 people cutting the wheel too hard 4lo and on dry ground. Or even more so I bet half can't even get the rear locked withing 30 seconds.

Oh well. Better luck with your truck. Hope you figure out how to make it work. As others have said, just long hold the Trac button forever and you can do whatever.

Regarding snow, you might just need some more practice or something. You'll have a hard time selling that these things are worse in snow than a +20 year old truck to most on here. A logging roads certainly shouldn't be giving you any issues at all

Lol there’s no whoosh. OP was trying to say that was the road she has to travel and got called out.

So we already know she’s comfortable at the very least of “bending the truth”, and that’s giving her the benefit of the doubt she’s likely just straight up lying.

So I’m sure she did NOTHING at all to break an axle we all know they just spontaneously explode right?

Oh you sweet summer children, don’t believe everything you read on the internet ;)

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! :deadhorse: I didn't say I was driving that road I said this isn't winter weather commute conditions heading into your office jockey job. No one was reading my words so I thought a pic would help. This is not uncommon for us to come across a road with several trees down and have to saw them outta the way and to be in deep snow.

Also for the millionth time, My husband was the driver so stop with the whole the female doesn't know how to drive and the skill level needs to be improved BS. He has hunted/trapped/cut timber on the same roads for 30+ years and this is the first cat season to hunt with the 2017 Tacoma. We never had issues getting around in the 2001 and the first time the undercarriage needed worked on was at about 156k miles with the ball joints needed replaced. So we didn't just "send it" in the new truck. We know the difference of running into a rock or stump. We know how to turn around blah blah blah, My only mistake was thinking I could pick the brains of other Tacoma drivers on how to get straight 4 wheel drive no computer BS. I mean it is 2019 you would think all genders could actually converse without the BS. :proposetoast:
