31.5" KO2s, stock gearing. Nothing fancy.

Hmmm, well that takes my theory off the table.

Yeahhhh you might as well buy a ZR1 for that money. :D At least the tranny wont fall out from under at the first hard launch.

Yeah I hate GM with the burning passion 1000 fiery hells but I hate Nissan equally with that same passion and more. I am an equal opportunity manufacturer hater for building the junk that they do these days. :)

I got mine at about 50-55K. I did a tranny flush anand a tranny shift learn reset it stopped for a while then it started again. It was insanely intermittent. Luckily when I did my valve body it went away.

It's a pretty stupid Toyota thing if you ask me.

He runs virtually the same setup I do as far as all that is concerned.

At first I didnt have any problems. But as time went on I had rare, yet inconvenient hiccups. My thoughts are temperature or turbulence issues confusing the sensor. I could have bought a honeycomb dispenser but said screw it and bought an afe. No problem now.

My 4-5 flare is better since the valve body. If I leave it in D, it almost never happens. If I manually shift and I've let off the gas as I'm going into 5th it seems to do it more. Makes no sense to me. But my shudder is gone and that was a much bigger deal to me. Maybe I'll regear at some point.

I concur. I hope to do suspension and gears this year. I'm not going crazy though. I want a 4:10 or 4:30 depends on if I go back to 35's

I think 4:56 is the number. Mileage might seriously suck, but it sucks now.

What's mileage? The distance between oil changes? All I know is it takes a certain quantity of fuel to produce a certain amount of hp. Honestly if this truck had 900hp and got under 3mpg I'd still drive it everywhere.

Maybe its the passive engine braking and a lockup/unlock happening. It may be thinking u are climbing a hill (throttle/unlocked), then coming down (locking and engine braking). Ive thought that for a long time. Why was it more prevalent after the blower for me? Not sure.

Does toyota manipulate the trans in the reflash.... Yes
They do and they do for the tundra too. The auto tundra is expected to slip alot according to a tech i know. I had him do a ridealong in the tacoma yrs ago with his techstream and he was watching the screen as i had a small flare. He got on the phone with their trd techs and they said not to worry about it and let it slip about the tundra to him, and he told me.

I know the toyota tech personally fwiw.

I disconnect the neg battery terminal when this gets more prevalent and when i reconnect, it shifts better.

4.56 is perfect for 33’s and pretty good for 35’s. My mileage with them has been 13.5-14.5 depending on how I’m driving that tank. Though road trips cruising at 80+ it drops to 10-11

Thanks for the input. I’ll probably end up doing something when I chop the core supports out, so we’ll see if I can shield it some more or reroute it somewhere else.

Yes but the point is it shouldn't have to get to the point of a hard disconnect reset of a battery to achieve desired results. The slippage from 4 to 5 used to happen to me prior to the VB upgrade when I was on level ground. There was no change in AFR or perceived calculated load. Nothing.

I'd actually like to hear from a Toyota tech about this and see what the deal is because slippage during shifting is not only the causation of extra unwanted heat buildup, but early automatic transmission clutch failure.

If it is a software thing than it is almost like they want it to slip to allow for an even softer granny shift so the consumer does not feel it. The factory clutch packs are only capable of withstanding so much holding power. They are similar to Honda's clutch packs on the early 2000's Accord. Soft shifting = early unit failure as some of you may have personally experienced on those cars. From a fuel economy standpoint slip shifting actually would hurt economy rather than improve it so it makes no sense either.

Yeah sounds good. I rarely exceed 65. Seattle traffic I rarely exceed 2nd gear.

My first idea would be a honeycomb to disperse the airflow. A shield might work but I tripped mine up with no rain at times.

That info wasnt supposed to be shared... Zero foxes from me

I have never liked the learning aspect of the transmissions anyhow and will continue doing the disconnect as it helps.

The trucks arent supposed to do alot of things they do.

Some from a safety standpoint, the abs will kill you for instance.

The leafpack is weak for mercans softness, we always had the shit leafpacks... I could go on. In the end, toyota cleary doesnt care and the flare does not show any issues via techstream, so im not sure wtf is happening. But a 10mm wrench and half an hour fixes mine for a few months to a year.

The trans on these is backwards anyhow, let off the gas and they downshift? After how many years of "let off gas and upshift" have we been thru?

Hey I gave you input about it. Where is my thank you? ;) :D

The ABS almost did kill me once in the snow. I almost went flying off the freeway ramp as well because VSC kicked in while starting on a normal turn. The tech on these trucks absolutely sucks and I am overdue for doing this stuff but I need to rig kill switches for both the ABS and VSC programs. I am glad I took care of the slippage garbage and strengthened the stock leaf pack. I am on year 5 of running ththe stock leaf pack with a 3 leaf AAL from Deavers and the pack is still insanely strong capable of easily transporting a 300lb payload in the bed no problem, not even a mild squat from the rear end.

If It was easier to work with the PCM on these junks I would had upped the line pressure some and suggested to all encountering slippage to follow suit and call it a day.

These trucks leave a lot to be desired really, so yeah, I agree with you. They are quality, but they are junk too. Quality junk.
