What fuels do you use to cook on?

MSR Whisperlite for backpacking or a portable Weber gas grill for boating / island trips.

 

34,000 is okay but not huge. For camping it’s amazing.
I have three wok burners at work. Two are 130,000 btu’s. I have these pots that happen to fit into the collar of the wok so the bottom of the pot is just above the actual burner. I can take 2.5 gallons of cold water and boil it no time flat. I think it might have been less than 2 minutes or something. I’ll have to do it again tomorrow and time it.
I had a bayou burner for brewing beer. Those are 210,000 BTU’s.
Restaurant equipment is fun stuff. I can fill a 5 gallon bucket in 7 seconds with my faucets.

 

I’m pretty spoiled by the stuff I have at work so when I cook when camping I get annoyed by the lack of fire power.

I've been contemplating making my own setup for a while. The Snow Peak is basically a stopgap. When I have some time to build a legit wok burner. I'll have to include a generator tube for good measure. I have to say though, a 5lbs tank won't last long at 100k, but it'll at least have made several orders of beef chow fun, bird's nest chow mein, kim-chi fried rice, pad thai, stir fried chinese broccoli and beef, and honey walnut prawns in 15 minutes.

As we enter spring, and the start of the three season period for camping comes up again...

I have a Primus Classic trail that runs on the Iso-Propane mix and it's been a champ the last 10 years. I admit I may have used it indoors a few times in the fire place to heat up cans of soup when I was too lazy to go downstairs.

For the longest time, I used to have the Coleman white gas stove and lantern, but lately have switched over to Propane for convenience. I got the camp chef everest for most of our cooking needs.

If anyone is a Sports Basement member, they sell these heavy duty grass green cylinders and they are about two and a half times the cost of a disposable coleman cylinder, but you get free lifetime refills with a membership.

 

That Camp Chef Everest is a BEAST! I got one so I could fry fish for 3-4 hungry guys and keep up. You'd need a JetBoil to eclipse an Everest.

 

My last fly fishing trip up into the McCloud river area, it definitely pulled through with the wider grate than the colemans when my fishing mates needed more burners to get everything going.

 

The only way a Coleman is going to try to keep up with an Everest is to unscrew the burner stacks and put all of them on one burner. Even then...

 

Which one to take? Some of my suitcase stoves, have added four more since this was taken. A Prentiss Wabers and another old, rare Coleman 9G.

Was that pot support something that came w/ it or something you had to make?

 

The windscreen/pot support? Factory item, not all the models come this way. Three sizes of stoves, some use a Sigg Tourist set designed for the stove.

That's pretty compact, no containers of fuel laying around. This 90 year old Coleman 454 I just got. Has the wrong grate.
