Lmao good to know. One more question, do you do the little circle pattern or U's?

I'm used to F on this picture from MIG, but it seems A is pretty common for larger gaps. But I also read that almost no motion is necessary for most small gaps on thinner stuff and that seems weird to me.

It's funny that you're asking me with my two weeks worth of experience
I was just now starting to wonder about that stuff myself. All I've been doing thus far is trying not to drown in the puddle or outrun it.

Anytime I’m talking with anyone about welding, and they’re like “well I wanna get a welder and learn how to weld, but I just don’t know what I’d do”, it’s stuff like this. I’ve done so many misc little bullshit projects where it’s nice to be able to weld. Sure some things could get by without it, but it’s in my top favorite purchases that’s truck related.

If you're talking stick then its typically a step pattern on a straight line pulled. Multiple passes to fill gaps.

Did some more welding today. It’s just such a nice day out so I’m knocking out a few projects. This has 1/4” plate on the sides and 2” square tube, 1/8” wall. It will be for the adjustable upper limit strap mounts. Most people don’t bother adding limit straps but it’s cheap insurance.

110! Works really well. Thickest I’ve done is 1/4” and it handles it fine.
Haha get outta here. I’m fine with spending $120 on limit straps to protect my expensive new shocks.

wow thats awesome. i might just need to mess with mine more. the hard settings for voltage and wire feed seem to be either too much wire or too little based on voltage.

I’ve been going off the welders recommended settings and it’s been awesome. My go-to settings are 260 ipm, 18.5V, .030 wire, and C25 gas at 20CFH. That seems to be the sweet spot for most everything I weld.

My first welding project is of course a cart. It’s taller than most I have seen but needed the additional vertical storage in my garage. Definitely some crappy welds, but it was a good learning experience. Getting the 45* cuts to line up properly on the angle iron was a pain.
