Hey guys need some help trying to troubleshoot my sunroof. The original operation is for you to be able to press the "open" button once for a short moment and then the sunroof opens completely. Also when going to close the sunroof I press the "close" button and the sunroof will close all the way. Currently mine is not working correctly. In fact both the "close" and the "up" button are essentially doing the same thing. Also it is not opening with one push of the button. I went and checked the wiring at the sunroof motor and also pulled of all the panels by my fuse panel to see if I had left a connection unconnected in the past. I also wanted to check and see if there's a sunroof control module somewhere located up behind the dash. By the way I also checked all the fuses at the drivers kick panel and under the hood and all work. If anyone has had experience with this let me know or know if there is a module of some sort to control the functioning of the sunroof. Thanks guys. Maybe even a wiring diagram of the sunroof control system might help too.

Could be the buttons themselves. Had a similar issue with my 12 Camry and it ended up needing a new switch.

The owners manual says something about malfunctions in the sunroof and gives a sequence of button pressing to reset it.

Have you disconnected the battery for something? Sometimes after that you need to go through a learning process for it to work properly again.

I would rather try to see if I can troubleshoot first than pay then $130 for them to diagnose. Ex stereo and alarm installer here.
One of the great reasons why tacomaworld exists for resources. Thanks for the suggestion though.

easy way to tell if it's the switch is check the voltage when you press the button. It'll be positive one way, negative the other.

So i did check in the owners manual and I think this happened after i disconnected the battery recently for a good bit and the moon roof needs to be initialized again. I followed the steps in the manual but the only issue I'm having right now is I have a roof rack that is low and not enabling the moon roof to go through its learning process fully because it cannot open all the way up. I'm thinking I'm going to have to take off the roof rack temporarily to do the learning process again. Any other troubleshooting advice just in case would be appreciated.

Already checked that with the multimeter. Switch is working in that sense as in it opening and closing as such when the button is pressed but it's the function of pressing for a short moment and then the roof will still continue to open completely thats not working.

Apparently that's not necessarily so. They said they have to charge you first for diagnosis and then see from there if its covered under warranty. Bummer.

Definitely lost it's initialization. Take the rack off so it can go through it's full range of motion to be initialized.

What a drag and hassle. Too bad you cant just loosen a couple of crossbars and slide them out of the way.

    Nice looking rig.

Thanks guys to those that contributed to this issue. I was following the steps in the manual today and at 1st I couldn't get it to work but kept fidgeting with it. I think that the step by step instructions in the book aren't the best. I actually at 1st misinterpreted the initialization process one way but that didn't work. I then figured out the best way to do it was to press the close button and then the roof would completely close raise up vertically, come back down, close, then open up completely back, then close again and then that's when it would seal shut. This completed the process. I hope I'm explaining this well. I also made a YouTube video on it but again I had already fixed the issue at the time so couldn't really demonstrate it. After all this my sunroof now works again. I had detached some of the bolts for the roof rack to raise up but in all honesty I might have been able to get away with not raising the roof rack.

A thanks again to those who contributed to this thread and hopefully someone in the future who has this issue can benefit.
