Let's See Some Softoppers

I wonder if anyone has experience putting a company logo on the softopper fabric. I have a black softopper and was thinking about a gloss black company logo. I assume a vinyl decal will not adhere very well, but was looking into vinyl sprays, Rustoleum makes a product to paint vinyl. I would have a plastic template cut as a stencil, and spray the gloss black. Any other ideas would be very much appreciated.

Still going strong, leak free! Going on almost 3 months!

 

Do most of you guys seal the front two corner of the bed? If so what do you use? I'm thinking about purchasing a softopper to keep stuff semi dry

 

Just got through two months of sideways rain - atmospheric rivers - as well as record snowfall and my stuff was bone dry inside the topper. I did not seal the holes in the front of the bed. YMMV

I never sealed mine either. My fishing clothing I keep back there is always dry.

 

Some water does get in, I have the bed mat and that lets what water does get in to just run thru the groves on the floor and not get stuff wet.

 

Just gotta make sure you have the front flap pulled all the way down against the bed when you fasten the Velcro. I don't have much of an issue keeping anything dry.

 

I just stuffed some black foam rubber stuff in the front corners that I had laying around. Seems to keep things dry.

 

So disclaimer, I didn't read all 200pgs. Is it possible to have the softopper and not have that flap hang over the tailgate? I have a 3rd gen taco. Only one I've seen is the sick inferno a page or two back.

 

Okay, I'm sold. Just ordered mine... Super excited!! One thing that is concerning me is how the back flap will be flailing in the wind. Thinking the easiest solution would be to have a local vinyl shop slap a clear piece where it would be in contact. Maybe putting velcro over that too.

 

That would work. I've seen people do that before.

I just left mine hang, it flaps a little but I don't see any adverse effects.

 

Same here, I saw people stick velcro to their tailgate to hold it down but I have had mine on for about 6 months now with lots of highway driving in cross winds and I have only seen it flap enough to see light under it like 1 or 2 times and that was just for a single lift then it settled back down.

 

Mine flaps all the time, had no effect nor do I care. All my stuff stays in and dry, so I am happy

 

It seems like I see more movement at the front of the bed than back at the tailgate. No Velcro, I just have the standard bar back there. Which reminds me of a question. For those of you who purchased a new Softopper, did your unit come with a front bar by the cab that slides down between the bed and cab?

 

I got mine new spring 2017, it did NOT come with a bar for between bed and cab

I even once drove 3 hrs with the zippers undone and only the Velcro and cross bar holding the back flap. Oops. Didn't even notice till I got home and opened up the back.

These things are solid.

Also, I initially had some c-clamps holding the front flap to the tie down rail since I never did go out and get some snaps or Velcro for it. I took the clamps off and now just run the front neked and it doesn't move or make noise much at all. I guess YMMV and it depends on the fit and how tight you pull the Velcro.

 

Mine came with some self tapping screws with snaps on them I just put 2 into the inside of the bed and snapped the front flap to them. That has never come loose or have I had issues with it. 50mph cross wind gusts while driving 75 and zero issues thus far. I am so happy with this purchase, these things are rock solid.

 

Gratuitous, I'll admit, but I love my Softopper. I have a 3rd Gen topper on my 2nd Gen and absolutely love the way it fits. I've had mine for several months now and doubt I'll go back to the hard shell. No leaks, no problems.
