Best tires for ride quality yet with a rugged look..

I went with Wildpeak AT3's in 245/70/16 or whatever the stock size is. Look great and they're super smooth when I'm commuting. They're no louder than the Firestones that came with the truck

 

For size, I'd suggest 255/85R16 or 255/80R17 "skinnies" -- depending on your wheel size.

My shortlist for tires, in order of preference:
1. Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx
2. Falken Wildpeak AT3-W
3. Dick Cepek Extreme Country
4. BFG KO2

 

What are the pros and cons to getting bigger tires in yalls experience? I have a new SR5 RWD and they come with 245/75/16 I think. Whatever tire I get I want 265/70/16.

I just looked at a used tacoma pro with a size tire i didnt no existed. 275/70/16. They were BFG's all terrians. Turns out there in between a 265/70/16 and 265/75/16 height wise. Roughly 31.4 inches. Not sure how many companies make this size.

I would recommend moving to a SL 265/75R16. You get a little more sidewall, which can translate to a smoother ride. If you're determined to stick with 265/70R16, find a TRD OR person trying to sell their factory Goodyear ATAs. They're a lot more aggressive than the stock 245s and are smooth riders. I had no complaints off roading with them, either.

Edit: I used to run Falken AT3Ws. Awesome tire. Now I run General Grabber ATXs. Awesomer tire.

 

I wanted a 4dr SB and got a good deal on my OR, but I never planned on going off-roading at all. I sold the Wrangler Kevlars that came with my OR because they were too loud for me and my usage. I wanted something long-lasting and comfortable, but also with a little bit of bite because it snows a lot here.

I have the Continental as well, good looking tire and rides well. I haven't taken them on the beach yet will be doing that shortly.

Thanks guys. I really like the Falkens everyone is suggesting, but I do have a question since I'm not tire savy. Rather than going all the way up to 265/70/16, I assume 255/70/16 is just as good and closer to the stock tire size (245/75/16)? Guess don't want a larger tire causing vibratiion problems like I had before in the steering wheel that drove me nuts.

 

The TRD Off-road trim comes stock with 265/70/16 tires, so which geo variable leads you to believe the same size would cause vibrations on your SR5?

You are really not making big movements and the 265/70/16 is a available tire size from the factory on certain models. See if the tire you like is available in the size your looking for and go with what you want. If it is only available in one size- take in the tire that you want and I would not give it a second thought

 

I thought vibration problems came from tires that are out of balance. Here’s a pic of the falkens.

 

You've got at least one M/T tire in your A/T list - the Extreme Country. Maybe you meant the Trail Country or Fun Country?

My buddy loves his DC EC's, and I always mistakenly thought they were just really aggressive AT's... doh!

 

How about some Duratracs. Pretty aggressive for an all terrain tire and ride smooth on the road.
