Sorry guys, I'm out for this mod day. It appears that my fan clutch is going out. I'm hoping to make It to Saturday until I have time to replace it.

I thought about doing that, but it is sounding pretty bad. Sounds like a fully loaded big rig starting from a complete stop. Don't think it would be good to push it.

Another suggestion - grab a tube of RTV (silicon sealer) to glue the backing plate to the roof. A dab in each corner will be sufficient.

The plate has weight, and if you don't glue it, the antenna mount has to carry all the weight. They are not really designed to carry a load in that manner.

Good idea- definitely couldn't hurt. I'm curious if the arc of the roof will force the mount to do a little clamping action between the two as well. 1/8" is a lot thicker than I was thinking, and definitely has a lot more weight and none of the flex I was imagining. Anyone know the thickness of the roof panel? Might need to make sure the mount will accept this much thickness..

Roof is way thinner than 1/8".

Might want to find a thinner piece of steel. I think I used 1/8" aluminum for mine. I did have to modify the CB antenna mount for the additional thickness.
