do you take the foil out after taking out the secondary and placing it back on?

Good Direction. Removed my secondary air filter on the 4.0L V6. Didn't have to remove anything just disconnected the duct to expose the secondary filter and used a razor knife to cut the plastic rivets. Filter then pops right out.

As far as the results...I haven't noticed any change. Certainly no noticeable extra power or increase in gas mileage. Wouldn't recommend for the V6.

I don't understand why you guys with the V6 are doing this mod? It is pretty clear reading the first page that this only works and there for is intended for the 4 cylinder.

You never know unless you try. If it works for the four cylinder, why wouldn't it for the V6? It certainly doesn't hurt anything, especially if you're past your warranty period and enjoy tinkering with machines. It may not work, but would anyone know if there weren't several case studies showing so? Thanks for the input.

Gadget and I have tested it without the filter (V6), and it shows no difference.

Just did this on my 2010 4 cyl. i treated it like a virgin. soft and slow in the beginning, checking out each piece to see where it went. I then took the cover off and saw what i was after. At this point i just dove right in. I ripped and cut out the various layers of the secondary filter. I then reached in and pushed on the rivets till they popped and removed the frame and remaining filter material/dignity it once had. Before I knew what was going on I was done :D

I just dremeled out the secondary filter and after a short test drive of interstate and backroads I really can tell a difference in power... Most noticeable when getting on entrance ramps. GREAT MOD!

I did on my 06 and is hard to tell you if it really works or not. Anyway, I feel much better now without it.

Forgive the ignorance...why is there a filter that has to be drilled out to remove/replace? This doesn't make any sense why it would be engineered like that. What is the maint on this per Toyota?

Its a Carbon filter. It absorbs any fuel vapors that are emitted from the intake.

super easy to get out of the 2nd gens.. xacto blade and flathead screwdriver. Cut tops off plastic rivets and insert screwdriver (flat) under bottom, pullout (that's what she said).. all done in 3 min. I am still smoking the cigarette i lit before i popped the hood as i post this...

Once again, No difference will be had by removing it from the 4.0 V6.
