Ive seen people spray them with a clear coat to prevent it. Luckily im in CA and dont need to worry much about it......But my Icons leak just because they are Icons......:annoyed:

Get what you like they are both good...
Kings are slightly better, slightly bigger piston aluminum body.
Fox have better shafts, steel body last longer...

King is the better off road, Fox may be better for dual use.... Splitting hairs..
I like the better durability of the Fox and the better adjusters so I got the Fox love them...

Either way you need to order them pre-valved right away. The Fox valving is for the street not off road and way too soft...
And I believe Kings come the same way....

my icons still look new after two years of salty winters, I rarely wash my truck in the winter also so... I would say they hold up better then autozone shocks

My Fox corrode easy, look like crap but work just fine...
The aluminum holds up good but the steel rust easy...

If you ever see me rolling around, feel free to send me over a honk. I can't honk because my horn is broken, so look for the wave or the supercharged whining rev Lol.

Not true. I have went a VERY long time on the service life of both my SAW and Fox shocks. The rebuildable part is convenient but it can be a pain in the ass to rebuild them when time comes. I know because I've done it before. Lol.

Fox 2.0 Coilovers in the front and Fox 2.0’s in the rear, Total Chaos UCA’s, Al-lpro expo leafs, K&N cold air intake, TRD headers,Magnaflow catback exhaust,URD short throw shifter, switched out my 60/40 bench seat for some Tacoma Limited seats, Replaced the vinyl shift boot for a leather one, completely soundproofed the cab w/ Frost King. Replaced stock radio with a Pioneer AVH series head unit. Focal component system w/a 10" sub powered by 2 Alpine amps. Weathertech floor mats. Line-X'd the bed. SCS Ray 10’s, Installed an A.R.E. MX series camper shell. All-Pro Apex front bumper w/ All-Pro skid plates all the way back to the Trans. Low Range fuel skid plate.
2.5”s vs 2.0’s is quite the upgrade

I take it you’re a Fox guy at heart. :p Back when I bought my 2.0’s I could of sworn that King’s were $1000. I looked recently and they’re now $1200 for the pair. Vs the 2.0’s at $450+ a piece=$900+ I should of went with the bigger shocks.

I vote for ICONs also. Mine are a few years old and are still working great. There customer service is amongst the best. Had custom made 2.5 shocks for the rear built. There was a lot of back and forth communication and revision changes. Sometime the tech would be at a trade show but he always got back to me. I was most impressed.

Clear zinc is one of the cheapest finishes you can do for a finished product and has very little abrasion resistance. King/Fox/Icon/ADS all use clear zinc on a steel main body with aluminium reservoirs. That's standard. None of these manufacture's products will do well in a highly corrosive environment with a high abrasion factor. Rocks, dirt, debris, and salt are thrown at a high speed while traveling down the road. Especially off road at speed or where salt is applied to the roads.

There are other coating options out there that will perform much better than clear zinc. You just have to take the extra effort to make it happen. Long story short, all the discussed manufacturers have pros/cons but they can all be tweaked to fit the application and end user's desire the best. One size doesn't fit all.

Cerakote being one of those optional coatings that will preform much better in high corrosive environments.

For a 2nd gen, but you get the idea.

My ICONs have aluminum bodies front and rear. I've taken them apart a few times for revalving so I'm sure of this.

I'm not aware of an Icon shock with an aluminium body for the front of a Tacoma. Is it a 2.5" shock?

Most aluminium body shocks are 2.0". King doesn't even offer this option.

Okay, I stand corrected. I magnet sticks to the bodies of my ICONs. Sorry about that guys.
