Just bought a 2008 Tacoma. I want to add a lift and new tires.

I have a chance to buy a set of 18X10 in BLACK GEAR off road wheels and NITTO RIDGE GRAPPLER LT295/70R 18E TIRES 34'.

So, should I buy those and work the entire lift process around that size or is that a bad idea... I prefer to stay with a 3 in lift but don't even know if that will work with these tires.

Basically, I don't know where to start. The tire set up is a great deal but don't want to make a mistake starting with the tires...

Ok, so the height isn't the issue so much as the width. Even with a lift you'll definitely need to do the cab mount chop, almost certainly hammer the pinch weld, and trim the inner fender liners. I don't know anyone off hand running 34s, but most people say with 35s you also need to regear. I've got 33s and I don't have any real issues. Those are great tires though. I also have Ridges Grapplers and I love them.

    Good thinking.

I'd suggest setting aside the 'great deal' until you learn enough to make a plan. More deals can be had. And I'll bet once you have a plan, that size wheel/tire combo won't be part of it.

1st suggestion is realistically figure out how you will use the truck 90% of the time, and build so that is a pleasurable, safe, reliable experience.

    Function is always > looks.

If you don't limit up travel a 3" lift is the same as stock in reference to clearing tires.

    Welcome to TW!

I believe @EatSleepTacos is running that tire size and he isn't regeared but just had to do the standard fitment things that most of us have to do for 33s like cab mount chop, plastic trimming, and hammering the pinch weld.

So I’m running 295/70r17 which are 33.5” but I just call them 34s. Yours are 34.5” which is about the same height as 315/70r17, or what people commonly refer to as 35s.

To run those, you’d have a bit of work to get them to not rub. Cut most of the cab mount back, hammer the pinch weld and firewall back a bit, and trim your fenders about 1.5” all the way around.

Then there’s regearing your differentials, which is a couple thousand. That’s so there’s not a bunch of extra strain on your transmission.

    Thanks for all the comments.

So, what's the largest tire that doesn't require all the reworking?
