So, she was appointed to that position in 2013. It's now 2019. Is she even still Interior Secretary? (says Google: no, it's now David Bernhardt)

This logic sounds akin to conservatives thinking that Obama was gonna take their guns in 2008.

REI gives a lot of money to Sierra Club. Sierra Club basically hates ORV and thinks it should be banned on all public land with limited exception:
    https://www.sierraclub.org/policy/road-use-motorized-vehicles

If you like firearms, hunting, ORV'ing with a truck/motorcycle/quad/etc., overlanding, etc., then you should not spend your money at REI.

What size are your wheels and tires? If they're 17x8 I can offer you cash and we can swap setups if you're really going through with getting rid of your Taco. I'm running 285/75/16 BFG KM2 with 16x8 KMC enduro but have been wanting to move up in wheel size. My tires are a bit dirty and wheels are a bit beat up but I can clean them up and spray some tire shine on to make them look pretty.

    Let me know :)

My CVT didn't come with instructions but I downloaded a pdf for a certain ARB model and it was definitely the same exact tent down to the smallest detail. Only difference was the name on it.

edit: somewhere I have a link to order RTT's direct from China with no name brand on them.

This, exactly. All of the brands on the budget side of things are selling the same couple models from the same couple chinese manufacturers and basically amount to importers that provide customer service. With brands like ARB, CVT or Tepui you're buying better short term customer service than brands like Smittybuilt but from what I've read you're still going to be SOL if you need spare parts once the factory in China switches up the design and Tepui/CVT/whoever has run through whatever stockpile they keep.

If you're wanting parts and support for years and decades it sounds like biting the bullet and going with Eezi-Awn or similar is the way to go, which is the conclusion I've come to(pulling the trigger by the summer!!). Stuff like the Smittybuilt tents sound like a fantastic value, especially if you're unsure you're sticking with a RTT or don't plan on using it a ton. And at the end of the day you can replace it a few times and have still saved money over an Eezi-Awn or similar. I'm just not sure I see the value in the Tepuis and CVTs of the world when it's not such a huge jump to just buy the best. I mean, a ruggedized Tepui is within a couple hundred bucks of an equivalently sized Eezi-Awn Series III(gotta read the fine print.. a "three" person Tepui is dimensionally the same as a "two" person Eezi-Awn and despite not being "ruggedized" the Eezi Awn is still made out of heavier duty materials than the Tepui). I know that I camp almost every weekend in the summer and I don't see that stopping anytime soon so for me at least it seems like the smarter use of money to spend a little more now and get something that's proven to last decades and more importantly will be supported long-term when I inevitably break into the beers before setting up camp and bend or lose a pole or whatever.

The Sierra Club had $57.6MM direct contributions in 2017, and while REI contributed $140,000 to that cause (1% of REI's total 2017 grants) it is hardly a drop in the bucket (.24% of total contributions to SC). REI also contributed an additional $9.56MM in grants in 2017, so while I do understand your point I also have the opinion that if you follow every dollar that a corporation (or person) donates you will eventually find some sort of stance or policy that you may not agree with. The larger scale mission and goal for REI outweighs a small portion of their yearly donations, at least for me.

REI is having their Garage Sale this weekend. Saw a bunch of Tepui tents in the DC the other day heading there. Have to be a member to be apart of the garage sale.

Even then I think of all the BENEFITS I have received from REI.

I've gotten slightly used gear for great prices, they have a great warranty policy (I mean seriously name a store that take back climbing shoes, worn out boots, etc). I also got my dividend back (a fat $440) and its 10% of whatever you buy in store.

I'm all for overlanding, hunting, etc however I refuse to villainize REI like that, especially when there are way worse corporations out there...

This person came to my wife's work last week for the rah rah speech about women's day or something like that (this person is on the board of dirs at my wife's work) ... my wife was rolling her eyes....
The sentiment was appreciated between the grade levels within the corp; the message was not so much (my wife's opinion).

If you wiki her, charmed life for sure.

And that is awesome for sure, not trying to start a Rei witch hunt, I just wanted to relay information that has been shared with me since a very young age in relation to off-roading and riding motorcycles.
