Dual Zone Climate Controls

Understood.. but does anyone have any parts diagram that shows one of the parts unique to the dual zone? I did some searches on toyota parts website using the vin number of a dual zone and non dual zone vin and they fed me the same diagram. I think this is a bug on their end. are they doing the dual zone with inline blowers, restricting the vents inline for the side that needs less cooling/heat or it is more complex. Can you actually have one side with heat and one side with cooling or is it just that you can have more heat or more cooling on one side?

 

You can have one side hot and one side cold. Fan speed is the same for both.

 

I can guarantee it’s way more complicated than just a couple controls. If people want premium features buy premium packages lol.

 

Agree.. that means a different heater box that is split plus some more goodies. I just wish I could find it in the parts diagram as I am curious.

 

Can’t think of a more nightmarish job TBH. Would rather pull the engine and transmission, then the dash.

Pulling a dash is not rocket science and it’s not a big deal. Converting from one operating system to another would require planning and for thought. If we listened to you guys we all be sitting around .

 

Yep, cutting up cab mounts, long travel, body chops for bumpers makes perfect sense. Not to mention hacking factory wiring to add in your widget

The entire housing in addition to several other fairly expensive parts are all different based on automatic climate control. This doesn't even include the head unit or temp sensors. From what I can tell you'll likely be around $2k unless you can find a donor truck and speaking from dealing with other dash disassemblies, it will be 15+ hours and it will never be the same again. Too many push clips that let things rattle in a modern vehicle.

 

Unless your driving Winnebago...dual zones do nothing.

 

Or maybe you have a woman and she likes a different temp. I wouldn’t own a vehicle without dual zone.

 

That's exactly why I love having it. She wants the heat on full blast while I just want it set to 70.

 

Yeah that seals the deal. I assume w/ climate control is the dual zone version. There are at least 6 parts on that page that have a 'with climate control' version. Plus a $350 amp. Plus it seems like there could be parts on other diagrams

If your serious about doing this your gonna be going deep into it. Factory wiring diagrams to verify connections, exploded parts diagram and such. This is by all means not a two step process. I am not familiar with the process and wouldn’t personally perform it due to minor gains. But I’ve done oddball stuff just because so I’m not judging.

 

Not exactly sure what I’m trying to win here. Just trying to be a positive voice to a question amongst negatives.

 

I haven't noticed any mention of the warranty void-ance that this mod would induce. Not on the whole truck of course, but if things ever break on the dashboard, OP would be on his own. The probability of dashboard issues after this mod, probably high.

No offence to those who have auto climate control, but it remands me of a 90's after-market head unit. Nevertheless, the OP says he likes the way it looks, different tastes, I guess. – Actually, I think the OP or his GF\Wife are regretting not getting auto climate control -. I know I definitely miss it. Auto climate control is one of those things that you don't think about until you no longer have it. I'll just get used making manual adjustments as I drive. No problem.

If you're so confident giving people shitty advice you should pull your own dash to the firewall and put it back in!

In fact I am willing to send you $50 via PayPal if you do it and document it.

 

Also, not to discourage the OP, but the knobs are completely separate from the digital display unit . . . and the 3 knobs have different functions in the auto vs the manual. It looks to me as if two different modules would need to be replaced. E.g. the digital display module + the knob cluster below it. Plus, I think the seat heater controls may be integrated with the digital display module (not sure - just looks that way).

However, where there is a will there is a way. Maybe OP will prove us doubters wrong.
