Hey guys! I own a 2017 TRD Sport and am dieing to get front and rear differential lockers. I’ve heard good and bad about arb lockers and can’t find much info on E lockers. What are some pros and cons of both? And some brand names of E lockers? Thank you!

I think that Toyota OEM and a company called Harrop(?) are your options for e-lockers. The ARB differential is more robust than the Toyota locker (4-pinion VS 2-pinion) and works pretty well. If you live in a cold climate you'll want to use stainless steel airlines instead of the nylon/plastic stuff ARB gives you. The e-lockers actuate with any adequate 12V source and you won't have to buy a compressor.

Edit: Never mind about the Harrop unit, it doesn't show compatibility with the 3rd gen...

More people seem to struggle with the ARB than with the stock Toyota E-Locker. I think the whole “ARB is stronger” is just part of their advertising that has permeated the zeitgeist. I don’t see any evidence of that.

If you buy a Toyota Landcruiser, it has a Toyota E-Locker, and that is an extremely tough vehicle.

The only challenge with retrofitting the OEM stock E-locker on the latest Toyota Tacomas is the wiring can be complex, due to the way they are set up through the ECU. Might be easier to go aftermarket E-Locker. It’s even easier to just mount a compressor, get an ARB Air-Locker and the spend the rest of your life chasing leaking air or blockages.

Id call east coast gear supply and speak to them about lockers, your needs, and you concerns. I mean they are gears and locker central.

ECGS is very knowledgeable. Not many options for Toyota axles. I think the 8” has a few though. Welcome. I’m saving up to get front and rear ARB’s

While you're ringing up through east coast, might as well call these guys too just because....

Really??? I think you should put that away for a rainy day fund.... if there is one thing I know about money... is typically the older you get, the more of it you need.;)

The Toyota 8" is just like 9" Ford durability wise , a friend of mine race a Dirt track Dwarf car and these cars run the Toyota 8" axle with a spool and 4.88 gears . These cars will see 12-14k rpm and 90 -115mph speeds

ARB are the only ones available for your 8” front and 8.75” rear, both about $1000 each and $500 for compressor and $1000+ for installs unless you do it yourself (not many do and well advised not to except the compressor)
