Back in 1978/79 I was down at McMurdo Station Antarctica. You could use a station license to use the HAM radio with almost no training. The call signs we used were NNNOICE and KC4USV. People were very eager to get a QSL postcard because it was posted from down there. Sometimes we would take a radio to the south pole station. That was fun because our antenna height then was almost 2 miles. The ice is that thick before you get to ground. Don't remember any of the equipment we used. It was how we called home during the winter.

Must have been a lot different down there back then. We used to have a regular sked with some guys at the Station in the mid 80's, compare the weather and shoot the bull from Maui. I remember the KC4USV callsign.

Whoop the March one was for the general class. There's another in Manchester 4/13. If you go to the ARRL site they have info on licensing classes. I think the MA ones are mostly Attleboro and Natick.

Options are endless .depends on where you're looking to mount it and what you're willing to do to mount it. Have you started studying yet? I dont think it was too bad

    Hamstudy.org is a good one

    https://hamstudy.org/browse/E2_2018/T1A

There's also a book by Gordon West for the technician class you can get. And another by ARRL.

If you're ok with a phone you can get an appointment that helps you study. That's what I used and it helped. I studied on lunch break for about a month and had no issue passing. My lunch is 15 minutes and maybe 5-10 of it was studying. Do it by mini section and it makes it more manageable. 10-15 questions at a time
The app I used was called Ham radio exam

Here are some YouTube channels too. Some stuff will be over your head but there's a lot of cool stuff in there and you'll learn quickly. I like the ones by Ham radio concepts and Jim

I haven't listened to it yet, but it seems that the old guys at the ARRL think that we need a podcast. I wonder if they know that regular folks have been doing this for quite some time now.
