Locked keys in 3rd gen

It's been almost 3 years since I made the change, but I believe the settings are located in the somewhere in the radio.

Mine was setup to NOT auto-lock when I first got the truck. Ironically, I enabled auto-lock since I had a instance a few years back where I was carry a heavy box up he stairs, said box depressed key in my pocket and I did not realise, and a few hours later someone stole about 2 grand worth of equipment from my car.. FWIW, you can not lock your keys in the truck with the auto-lock feature. Although it may be a bit of an inconvenience for some.

 

Shipping company locked my keys in the truck that way in 2016 and ripped the vinyl between the windows and dented the inside of the door when they tried to unlock it. Truck had less than 2,000 miles on it before it had its first repair

 

An inflatable door wedge from home depot or Lowes along with a coat hanger should work. They are relatively inexpensive. Pull on the upper corner of the door, shove the bag in, give it a few pumps where you can get a hanger or rod in, and then hit the unlock button.

 

How much do you want to “break” your truck? Best to call professional to unlock, will be least PITA and less potential damage. One note of entry no one has articulated yet, IF you have a pop-n-lock installed. All you’ll need is a 9v square type battery, cut the wires running to the pax door in an area easy to access and later repair. Attach wires (to vehicle entrance side, not to PnL side) to 9v battery and voila... doors unlock.

Get a soft top Wrangler, very easy to get in with out a key.

 

get someone who has access to your spare keys call them on the phone and have them push the unlock button. It works Ive done it.

 

Have them run by Walmart for a fresh battery for the fob first. You need a good strong signal, and preferably a land line.

 

The lock switch becomes disabled when the BCM shuts down. Meaning even if you wedge the door and are able to get a coat hanger in there pressing the switch won’t do anything. You’ll have to try and hit the unlock on the keys of accessible or manually force the lock mechanism to the unlock position and then pull the handle open. The rods the lock Smith’s have are strong enough to do the job but can still take someone with experience upwards of a half an hour to be able to get in. And there is always some risk of damaging some paint or seals around the door.

 

See if AAA will let you sign up over the phone and send someone out. I used to lock myself out all the time with my first car, AAA was great about getting me sorted quickly.

 

Ok this idea will not work for you I have the flat key.

I have State Farm. It covers someone coming out to unlock your truck. Had it done a couple of times thru the years

 

I have a non cool key and the truck will lock with the key inside as long as it's not in the ignition switch. I had a non chip key made for my wallet...just in case.

 

I keep mine in the garage unlocked so I didn't know the truck had that feature . I just checked mine and it re locks in 60 seconds .

 

I’m sure the guy is in his truck by now. Sorry for your situation - it’s no fun at all. And I’m sure he’s already got a million solutions planned for next time.

But I do want to recommend the hitch safe or hitch vault or whatever brand someone else mentioned. I put one in my hitch almost right away upon buying the truck. It’s a combination-locked compartment specifically for hiding things like a spare key. The one I bought from Amazon (had to buy the longer pins too) is really high quality and I’d recommend it for sure.

 

I understand, it's only money.
