I also wonder about the wear and tear with that snow blade?

I will tell you what a couple of local Toyota mechanics have told me over the years regarding the frames in the midwest (I am in NE but Chicago where that truck is located is same climate)

the couple mechanics I have inquired about my frame say that the 'issues' were only with post '97 frames, '98 and beyond, and that I had no need to worry, I have taken their word as bond so far .. since they supposed to be the experts and all

just curious if the frames were re-designed after '97

Pretty sure it was a metal quality issue. While they will all rot out eventually, it seems like the late 90s-2011 were horrible. Take my 95 frame for example.. whole life in the Northeast, and just now getting crusty. I can’t say for sure, but I looked at so many later first gens around the time of the initial recall 10 years ago that were sooooo bad.

Only change I know of over the years was the relocation of the forward leaf spring mount. It’s in a slighlity different location on frames pre 98 I think.

I think it maybe had one coat of something but I dont see it everywhere. I would have to compare to another. I think the most important thing is just washing it and keeping it clean. So many of these trucks rarely got washed, and were owned by ordinary people who just used and abused it as a truck lol. While its still no excuse, I think that contributed to the rust issues.

Would you by any chance be able to post some pictures of your frame? It would be interesting to at least get a cursory comparison between mine, which is a 95 (April 95 to be exact) and in a salt state as well, to yours.

Yeah it's kinda sad really. I've also noticed there were no pictures of the engine.. So maybe that's done as well :( The plow also has to be killing that front end.

I'm not sure, probably though. They added more safety features on the trucks, so why not "upgrade" the frame.

Did they start out with a 18 gallon gas tank?
I have a 15 or 16 gallon tank and my truck was made in 1996.

I know I can upgrade it to a 18 gallon tank if I wanted too as some others have
