On the one hand, it makes time pass quickly. On the other hand, it makes staff meetings uncomfortable.

    Heh heh..."staff."

Not yet. HR has to process the move and we have to negotiate the cutover. Until then, I'm still the same asshole in his cage arguing about security crap.

The whole building is an unintentional Faraday cage. We have to keep our wifi signals in and everyone else's signals out, which is great for PCs but horrible for cell phones. Everyone walks over to the windows to make calls, and the biggest window is right outside my office.

Funny story - I busted a dude on a telephone job interview one day. A contractor trying to get another job somewhere else...all on VA time. I yelled at his phone "are you in a job interview on our time? I hope you get it, because we're not paying you to find a job somewhere else!" He must have gotten it (or another one, or fired) because I didn't see him anymore a week later.

Still, I don't know why people think it's okay to have private conversations outside my door. I've even had to post signs telling them their private calls...aren't. I've overheard a divorce, a couple of affairs, more home closings than I can count, and even a confession of criminal guilt to a parent. It's crazy.

Screw that. I grew up around it. You fuckers are crazy. Seriously though, you have a very dangerous and difficult job and don't get the understanding or respect you deserve.

I grew up watching my father over the years leave to go to a scene where one of his linemen died .
