Hi all - I saw a thread about this in the past but tried searching and couldn't find it. I recently hit 2500 miles on the new Taco, and in the past week or so it seems like every time I turn around it's throwing a pre-collision sensor error.

Here's what happens. When I start the truck, it tells me to clean the sensor. However, once I get going down the road, maybe 2-5 miles later, the error stops and everything begins to work normally. I have not ever cleaned the sensor when it suggested. I also handwash the truck every two weeks so if it needs more cleaning than that when I'm just driving to and from work, that's kind of insane. Is this something that has happened to any of you before?

I have not put in a different grille, it's stock. It's a 2019 OR. Any insights would be helpful - I assume I'll be on my way to the dealer to get it looked at soon.

    Yeah.
Yeah, I'd get it looked at. Mine seems to operate as intended, only got that warning when driving in an ice storm and it got covered in ice.

Yeah, the malfunction seems to be sudden. It's frustrating.

    Yeah.
It's not just the sensor in the grill, there seems to be a camera near the top of the windshield by the rearview mirror that is involved in the system as well. Pretty sure that is what got iced over when mine acted up, but I am sure the grille was iced up as well.

I had the PCS warning once, got the amber light first... turn on cruise control and the was informed to “clean the sensor”. This was after a snowstorm and when cinder and salt was applied to the roads. I ran the car through a car wash (double wash cycle) thinking that would fix the issue. Nope, on next start cycle the warning appeared again, and reappeared about 5 minutes after starting every time. I looked, and the logo sensor wasn’t dirty. But, simply because Toyota said to clean the sensor, I took a napkin from the cab and wiped down what looked like a clean sensor. After “cleaning”, the napkin appeared clean and unchanged... not a spot on dirt transferred. But, that must of done the trick as the PCS warring message hasn’t returned since... go figure.

Had my sensor deactivate on my way home yesterday, tells me the pre-collision system is unavailable, 5 minutes down the road the warning turns off and is active again.

Mine was doing the same thing the first week. Took it in and the sensor was bad. They installed a new one. No issues since, even after a grille swap.
