Some plants are even tougher than that guy realizes. I have spinach, lettuce, and kale in my unheated greenhouse. None of it is very big, so I didn't bother covering it with anything other than the greenhouse itself. Last month we had single digit highs, and negatives at night (some down to -20F) for over two weeks. Overcast skies most of that time as well. Everything looked dead, but the spinach and kale recovered after a couple nice days. The lettuce leaves mostly died, but the stocks and roots survived, and is growing new leaves.

Your posting sounds hopeful for someone building a hoop house or greenhouse for the first time. I think to have one would make the winters more bearable for us gardeners, how cool would it be to get to hang out with your vegetables while there is snow outside?

Green Beans, squash/cukes, peas, etc. all grow pretty heartily. Squash and cukes need room to sprawl to really do well; I get my best yields when I let them run all over the yard (so this year I'm going to try putting some in random sunny spots on the property so I can keep some lawn space). Potatoes do really well in 'new' soil, but if it's too damp they'll get scabby (or turn to vodka), so plant them on the 'uphill' side of your garden if it has one.

If u get your cukes up on a trellis they’ll take up less space and dry out faster after a rain so as to fight the molds n mildews :)
Also that way the deer don’t have to bend down as far to eat em

I get my best yield of cucumbers by going verticle, with the greater airflow/ more sunlight, have less disease. I have my trellis about 7' 6" high, using the large heavy duty stakes from home deport and using their metal fencing too. My Woodchucks don't get much of a meal either growing this way and I can grow so much more using less space.

I tried trellising them, but didn't have good luck with it for whatever reason, so I went back to letting them sprawl.

Anyone here raised mason bees? Any tips you can give me? I ordered some to help pollinate the garden.

I drilled holes in some of the south-facing fence posts on my property, and hung a couple of those bamboo houses for them too. I have had a bunch of Mason and Squash bees every year since.

The bees ? They are in my area . They show up on their own but if you don't have them locally you can buy the cocoons
