I have not had a chance to take it on the highway after the update, my truck has a 3" lift and i can tell you that it struggled with anything 118km+ in the wind. Downshifting, upshifting non stop. I never really paid attention to what gear it was in at the time, but will report back on exact gears and conditions next time i am out on the road. You are lucky to be out of here ha ha on days where its -31 i can tell my poor Taco struggled, though never let me down!

I waited about a month before posting my personal experience. Either I never had the problems to the same level others describe, or it’s 100% placebo. I see no difference whatsoever.

I just looked at my sticker. It has 2 different serial numbers but no TSB number.

Does this look like they applied the right thing?

My difference was insane. Night and day. Get a techstream on it and see if they actually did it.

Nah, I’m good, but thanks for the advice. I’m not really into “cute” trucks. But, I’m also not into being in the shop for over half the ownership experience.

I've had only a battery issue in only three years. With any vehicle you run the risk of an issue. Tell me if you go Ford Chevy or GMC you won't have any issues.

I’m glad you’re has been great. I wish mine was trouble free as well because I’m tired of the whole back and forth thing. You are correct that any manufacturer can make a bad one - they all can and they all do. As long as man has a hand in it, it’ll never be perfect.

Mine does the hesitation dance even in S5. Usually after opening the throttle @ 30-50mph.Took mine to the dealer for the 10k service this am and handed over printouts of both TSB 00062 and TSB 00058 and described the hesitation or "stumble". I was told their service manager took the truck for a drive and did't notice anything and that the "TSB didn't mean it's a recall". Thanks dude, guess i'm going to another dealership.

I approached this a little differently. Since I work all the time, I asked my wife (who is much more attractive and pleasant than I am) to take it to the dealership. I armed her with a print-out of TSB 0058. They went and found the Service Manager and she told him "My husband says it only acts up on occasion. He said you're free to drive it until it happens but please be considerate and fill the tank back up when you're done." The Service Manager walked to the back and handed the TSB to a Tech. She was out within an hour including the free 10k oil change.

Been 3k miles and the so called fix is gone. Still stumbles and also clunks into 1st gear randomly. Toyota gave me a case number and compared it to other Tacomas of the same model and year and said it was normal. Called a lemon law lawyer but unfortunately one of my service receipts mentions an aftermarket shift controller I use so I'm shit outta luck. So I'm just going to get the OV tune now.

Still talking with corporate. Honestly, it’s kind of on me now. They want to get the FTS back out but I have too much going on with work and family right now - way too much - to be messing with this. I’m thinking about unhooking the battery cable just to see if resetting it will help. I also think I’m hearing a howling again.

So did they fix the problem on the TSB regarding the 2018-2019 Tacoma transmission? How it bogs and hunt for gears ?

Since 2016 and still has issues. I really wanted to buy a 2020 but the Ranger is looking better and better, Tacoma should not have all these =issues. Dealerships are ignoring those who have major issues.

It's no wonder CR doesn't rate the Tacoma very high in reliability anymore. I remember a time when Toyota stepped up and replaced head gaskets on three model years all the way to 120K miles. My Tacoma in my avatar had that fix done @ 80K miles.

The sent out a notice to bring the trucks in. Not a safety issue but a reliability issue, Toyota does not seem expeditious or have the same empathy for those with issues today.

Seems to me that Toyota doesn't think there's anything there to "fix". They offer a tsb as a salve and many report an improvement. I thought it was definitely an improvement. But it's still a wonky transmission. Worst of any vehicle I've ever driven. It just doesnt feel "normal".

But I've resigned to thinking that this is just the way it's gonna be. They're trying to eek out every last bit of mpg that they possibly can from the 3.5L and this is the result. I'm thinking they simply can't do better and still maintain the EPA gas mileage stats.
