I didn't know how to weld either, that's what reading and time under the hood are for.

You are a smart sort. You can teach yourself anything you need to know.

Google. It's not just for porn, anymore.

BTW, anyone know how marketable the OEM skids for a 97 4x4 would be? I have a set I'm not going to need anymore.

I occasionally see them posted in the for sale section going for anywhere from 'free' to maybe $50 depending on it's condition.

My stock skid has been a marker for my parts graveyard on the side of our driveway for a couple years now

Weld a nut. The front axle seals let in more water than you think.

Yeah that is basically what I expected. About the same as the stock IFS on the old Blazer.

Camped out under the Softopper for the first time, Smokey Mountains Tennessee. Need to find a shorter cot, height wise...
Temp dropped to 34 degrees last night, but with the help of a coldweather sleeping bag, my pup, and an enclosure courtesy of Softopper, slept like a baby, nice and toasty too!B07E7EBD-A708-4C25-939F-D9E0E6E9FB5C.jpg

Back home from my Denver trip to see my brother. Put 1,715 miles on the Tacoma without a hitch. Well, except it not wanting to start yesterday morning after sitting in the cold for a couple days. I think I didn't depress the clutch enough is all. Need to adjust that somehow, haven't looked at the clutch safety switch yet. Also managed to grab this for fun during the last leg home last night.

Shortly after, the gas gauge was on E and the light came on. 23 miles from home. Probably could have made it but stopped to fill up anyhow. Had about 2.5 gallons left in the tank. Really wanting to add that second tank now to extend the range. Under 300 miles to a tank kinda really sucks. That tank lasted only 250 or so miles.

 250 miles/tank? I fill up at 1/4 and usually see between 175 and 200 miles, it sucks.

Now in the ‘15 expedition with the eco boost I see 500+ miles/tank, average between 19 and 21 MPG.

Tent is on the rack so there is some drag. And the truck has been putting on a little weight lately.
