I just switched over to Mobil 1 last weekend. I have always changed my oil at 3k...religiously. I know Mobil 1 is supposed to be good at 5k but it's only $21.00 (for a 5 qt. jug) at Wal-Mart which actually comes out being cheaper than what I used to buy. Even though I can get more miles out of an oil change, I am kind of thinking about keeping up the same regimen. Either way, 2,800 miles to think about it :D

My religion as well...3k, regardless of type [flamers, flame-on for excessive oil changes].

ive heard mobil one is good for 10k miles. Ive done my oil change at 11k once on my old civic and the oil survey came back good. but i try to change it every 5-7k.

Edit: i switched to synthetic on my civic at 2,000 miles and my father was tboned and it was totalled with 277k on the odo and still running strong.

Under warranty? As often as necessary to maintain the warranty.

After warranty? As often as indicated by oil analysis. Last car's oil never tested over the limits of contamination or outside of the tolerances for viscosity and other attributes even after close to 10,000 miles. I'd be comfortable going higher. Especially with oil filter changes every 5,000 miles and the little bit of top-off that would be necessary then.

whenever the engine oil light comes on or when the sticker they put in the corner of the windshield says. typically that's like 5k to 7k miles. but i'm sure you could wait till 10k and it wouldn't be an issue.

I thought you let it go longer than that? Don't you get oil analysis done?

Every year at safety/emissions inspection time which comes to about 10,000 miles, but could run to as much as 15K. All my vehicles since I got to pennsylvania about 5 years ago. Used to do the 3-5k regimen with mineral oils but it's just to expensive here and a variety of other reasons.

Never a problem and the engines are cleaner with fewer deposits (can look inside the oil fill and see it).
