When I deleted the cats it felt like a whole new truck. It made for a noticeable power gain and brought my MPG's up by about 2.

Well see what happens I won't start tracking mpgs again until the engine and the new clutch are broken in properly. Until then the usage will be all over the place.

    *Update
Still no word from the machine shop. Way far beyond the original 10 days, I had hope I would see it this week because of the conversation we had last Wednesday, but I doubt that will happen. I'm going to pay them a visit tmrw and see where things are at so I can hopefully arrange transport next Tuesday morning

Soooo went by the machine shop today. They've just fallen behind, basically down to the owner and another guy as his other employee is off with a bad back. When I got there they had just painted the block after it had just been hot tanked, and they were starting assembly on the head. Seems like they've had a hard time with parts having to order most from Toyota USA as the 4cyl is that rare here in Canada. He's given me a promise of next Thursday I should be able to pick up the completed engine.

On a positive note I scored an OEM air box for 65$ instead of the 450 I've seen

Damm that sucks about the your engine. Gotta think your itching to get it.
Our shop is behind also, we also use quite a few vendors for extra machining capacity. I run mills and inspect incoming from the vendors pretty easy to see they are all behind. Doesn’t seem that they pushing stuff just to get it done so that’s a good thing.
Quality instead of quantity is best.

    This

This is exactly why I'm not pushing them, just casually stopping by and seeing how things are going

New air box... Well it's actually used but this thing looks new lol mine broke at the rear tabs. They drilled out and removed the maf but since the lid on mine if fine I'll just use the bottom piece and keep this as a spare

Also went by the machine shop. Looks like Friday will be the day. I'll have to duck out of work early to make sure I can get there on time but that shouldn't be an issue.

Side note the shop told me they had to run the intake through the cleaner twice to get all the dust out of the runners. Part of my hopes this is just because the original box was broken a bit. But I notice there are two areas on the rear corners(side closest to firewall) where you can see the filter. Also that stupid drain hole in the bottom. Im concerned dust is getting in there.

Without that drain hole you’re hosed if some asshole finds it funny to pour water in your snorkel

Partly why I'm looking at adding a pre filter no hole to dump anything in. I feel like most of the issue is because the box I have was cracked at the back left side. The hinge part so it couldn't seal. Wish they put clamps on all 4 corners

It will never be this clean again lol.. they also primed it with oil so she's pretty much turn key.

So much win. You think that it’s possible that dust getting in wiped the rings out or do you think it was definitly faulty rings? Hard to say with the amount of dirt miles you’ve done I guess lol

The guys at the machine shop say they see this type of buildup on mining equipment and it definitely shortens the lifespan. However the low retention oil rings are a problem of there own.

I've now become obsessed with oil I'm not sure if the 5/20 or the dust or the faulty parts were all involved or just partly. After the amounts I've spent I have to make this engine last 10years at least

    That looks so nice!
    I want one.
As far as the oil goes what are thinking you should have run.
    What did you run?
Seeing I may be on the same path as you?
I run 5-30 castrol gtx and high mileage the blend stuff since it hit 100,000
I change at 3,000 miles, I may push it a few hundred give or take in the winter.
I use oem filters and it doesn’t see dirt but have the same ring packs I’m sure.
Sorry man I know your busy.

So is it done and rolling yet.
Looks like the weather is better there also!
Been a rough winter here also.

    Edit 5-20 not 5-30
