I don’t think I understand. It’s definitely required. But then you go on to say that that first gen was quicker than your cooled unit? Interesting. I can tell you right now that heat soak is an issue for me.

I’m hoping that the ceramic headers I just got, the campion radiator, which had been on backprder for 2 months, and MAYBE a way to vent hot air like (god forbid) hood spacers would be enough to bring the temps down.

If only someone made a fiberglass hood with vents that didn’t look ricey. It would definitely be on my truck

A methonal kit depending on how much you actually were spraying on Boost would solve most of your problems. A methonal kit can lower temps 100 degrees.

The heat problem is actually created by the amount of boost to push.

Each pound of boost creates 10 degrees of heat.

I have zero heat soak problems at 10 pounds of boost only after I got the methonal kit.

Before I had heat soaked issues

Yeah, methanol is on the list. I just don’t want to deal with it yet and I can’t decide on the system I want. I’ve mentioned before in another thread that it would be perfect to be able to get rid of the 7th injector but to use the controller for timing and a menthol map. In theory I could get a PWM solenoid and hook the 7th up to it and use the map. This is the exact same setup all the companies are moving to with their top of the line systems. Hopefully it would allow me to finely tune the amout of methanol sprayed. But I don’t have the smarts to know how to rig it up like that.

I also don’t like the idea of having to keep an eye on fluid level and keeping it topped off. I’ve been thinking of installing the biggest tank I can find in the bed. Hopefully it would last several weeks.

We were both pretty heavily loaded as we were chasing/racing that weekend. He had gears/35’s and I was stock gears and 33’s. I really think it was gearing that did it, but his truck was seriously quick. With all the additions I’ve done over the years, I’m way quicker now.

    found this.

    http://stiegemeier.com/trd/

Supposedly the venom cooler can lower temps by 50%. Now, how cooling the nose cone cools off the whole blower is yet been confirmed by looking at other forums. The 4.0 blower would probably have the biggest benefit since they already have the aftercooler and you can tap it in.

These guys also used to offer light weight rotors. They’re drilled by 1” all the way through and you can still find that page by a google search + steigermeier. But you cannot find it on his website from the main page. Must not offer that anymore.

Stumbled across your post. That's interesting they can work on a cast unit like the black TRD S/C for the 3.4. Did you end up contacting Stiegemeier about porting yours? I'm very interested if you did.

They told me they could do it. But I’m not going to do it. Not worth it IMO.

If it’s porting for the early Trd supercharger where it can be taken apart, it’s a two piece casting, it’s worth it and you can have it ported for hp or for torque.

Opening it up completely you will get more hp. But because the next generation superchargers are a one piece cast you can’t get inside, so probably not worth it I agree. Gain would be minimal I would think.

@Gamefreakgc Steigwhatever told me it can be done. But I’m not sure I want anyone to take a grinder to my supercharger especially since the 2nd gen casing can’t be replaced if it was botched. I’d assume the 1st gen could though since it’s the M62 blower with a manifold made to fit the 3.4. And since Eaton M series blowers are a dime a dozen on Ebay I’d be more comfortable with it.

    Here are a few pics

Top is the inside of a 2nd gen and below that is a 1st gen. You can see that Magnuson did not include the silencer ports and the outlet port a fair bit bigger on the 2nd gen.

    224ECD3C-1A66-43BD-BA05-A1511A0E7343.jpg AACD7296-A364-467F-9153-907C655E3F95.jpg

@1997tacomav6 I can tell you that I do get a bit of a boost in the upper RPMs already. I believe I read somewhere that Magnuson did in fact improve the efficiency on the updated version. But that doesn’t mean much without a Dyno comparing the two on the same truck.

The 1st gens do have a noticeably smaller outlet than the 2nd so I’m sure it had a benefit but Im also a bit skeptical of the proposed gains made by the folks that port. And with marketing like “stage 8 port” it’s a dead giveaway that it’s kinda bullshitty. But that may only be from that particular vendor.

I would never allow this. The shape of the outlet has been completely reversed. There’s a reason Eason and the Twin screws have the same shaped outlet that gets bigger the further it moves from the inlet. I don’t know exactly why that is but they have way more R&D in it than a guy with a grinder.

Dyno will tell the story and each setup will be a bit different with altitude.

My dyno before the porting on my supercharger, grey unit, two piece was 236-240 rear hp at 6000 feet
    and 10 pounds of boost.

After the porting my boost was about the same, 9.7-10 or so a hair less. More air is flowing through with less restrictions and notice a big power increase.

I had a dyno after the porting but I had a small vacuum leak on one of the supercharger hoses and my boost on the dyno was only at 8.5, grrr, so I didn’t get a correct reading because my boost was 1.5 pounds less or so. Typically for me one pound of boost is equal to 12 horses.

Anyways my rear wheel was at 255hp at 8.5 pounds of boost with the leaking vacuum hose.

So at 10 pounds of boost my rear wheel (would be) is at 270hp.

It cost 100.00 a dyno run so maybe next year will get another test without any vacuum leaks.

Anyways the porting got me an easy 25-30 more horses with my setup.

But the horses come on at the higher rpm range and that’s not for everyone.

The engine now has a new power band from 4K and up.

Before the engine would start to taper off at 4K and now it really wants to take off at 4K rpms and up.

Some people will like the new power at higher rpms and others probably could careless.

    I’m happy with it tho
There are also different ways that porting is done, for more hp or for torque and some just port the input and output sections.
So ready depending on what’s all included in a porting.

These are from my supercharger, two before the porting.
Supercharger has 100,000 miles on as shown and the coating is actually still in great shape.
I have more somewhere with the new coating on the rotors and inside

You should get a dyno reading to know what you have going on and
back to your heat soaked issues.

    Methonal kit will eliminate it.

Was 85 degrees today and my supercharger is not effected by heat anymore

Okay. Looking at those the outlets look about the same. The pic I posted was a bad angle.

Yeah, methanol is on the list. Where I am the ping is more to do with weather. So one day it’ll be fine then the next is is 20 degrees hotter and sunny. Then it will ping in lower RPM until I get the RPMs up again so the knock sensors can adjust the timing to deal with the heat and humidity. Then after that it does not ping like it did.

I’m going to do headers before Meth. Hopefully it will help it breathe better and not ping as much. I’m also waiting for OVtune to release the 03-04 ECU tuning kit. I’m hoping that will allow for a better tune so I won’t have to rely on a meth kit. It just feels like a band-aid to me. I’d like to use water/meth to make more power rather than to rely on it to keep the ping away.

Remember the methonal will completely clean any carbon from the throttle body and valves.

This is my throttle body and valves and another 3.4 motor with 75,000 miles with carbon on its valves which will cause a ping issues.
Hopefully your not having carbon issues causing ping?

Yeah. I’m aware of that. Here’s what I’m thinking. These progressive kits use a controller that varies voltage to the pump which is how it can spray more or less Water/meth. I just want to get the basic kit and add a voltage clamp to the pump to spray at say 100psi instead of 300psi. That way I don’t have to spend so much on a controller I don’t think I need. I can keep the 7th and use that to add fuel for high rpm lean out if I need to.

No Dynos around here. So no. But damn that gain you go was way more than I’d expect. You don’t think that temperature could have played a part in that gain?

No, because the last dyno was at 82 degrees with the higher hp and the one before was at 65 degrees.

I can definitely feel the extra 25- 30 horses consistently all the time now

I did have the throttle body ported and cleaned with a new butterfly at the same time by maxbore for 125.00,
so maybe that added a small amount, not sure
