Hell yeah. I didn't start this as a business. I started for my own mods. Basically forced into it. Love it for sure.

I was welding at metal trades a hour away 10 hrs a day and doing this in the garage till midnight every night for 8 months then went full time in the garage.

 

Sounds about like me. I needed a set of skids for my truck and decided to build my own and buy a welder with the money I saved. Then down the rabbit hole I went. Buying tools then paying for them by building stuff for other guys. I don't think I've had a night where I haven't been in my shop since I got in to this.

I'm an engineer at my day job working on helicopters but what I'd really like to do is get in to custom work for a race team and do it full time. I just have no clue how I'd go about that.

 

I think we are going to try ribs in his skids to see if that helps any.

You talk to Morgan about that dream? If anyone can, I'd say he's probably be your best bet

Does anyone in HSV know of any Mechanical Engineering/Project Management positions open? Doesn't have to be specific to Mechanical Engineering if it's an engineering job that would accept bachelor's degree in mech. examples: test/systems engineers, product review engineers, etc etc...

Look at Northrop Grumman, Aerojet Rocketdyne, USAjobs, the list goes on. Do you have a clearance?

I believe I have a secret clearance that I got when I first started at Spectrum that they keep up to date, I will have to confirm that. I have a CaC.

I will, just as I said to Wes just seeing if anybody I personally know has anything or knows anything specific before I go looking all over everywhere.

 

If you've got a clearance, you should've come to a job fair last Tuesday that was only for people with clearances. I already got a call back from Northrop and that was the day after.

That clearance will sell you if you've got one.

Allen texted me so I'll go ahead and say I'm not having issues at my job or really needing out or anything. I'm just looking at the future. At Spectrum I do HVAC/Mech. Engineering under a Mech PE. I don't care to do HVAC stuff forever, so would like to dive into other stuff. I've been diving into some Project Management at work, but not a ton. I don't foresee myself being able to get out from under my boss 100% or away from the HVAC work at Spectrum. So I don't want to waste a bunch of years going up in salary only to be unhappy working HVAC...then go look for another job and only have relevant experience with HVAC and not be able to get a comparable/similar salary to what I'm already at. Maybe that makes sense?

To add to what Wes said, having a security clearance in HSV is gold. Many places are willing to over look certain aspect of resumes and on job train if you have a security clearance.
