So you think that modifying the swaybar is any less prone to such a lawsuit?

If that's what you're afraid of, you best be leaving your vehicle 100% stock, with all OEM parts with the work done by factory mechanics.

Depending on price, I’d give it a go. I currently have no sway bar so options would be cool

Added length to the links should reveal a good ride even offroad, the prob w/stock links is the sway is already maxed with a 3in lift. As to legality, build the crap out of them with American pride and you shouldn't need to worry,& those heims are sweet!

My name has been mentioned a few times here so I thought I'd chime in.

I do make sway bar links in both disco, and non-disco. For 1st Gen's, these are very similar to what 3rd Gen 4runners, but Tacoma's have a couple different lengths. The 2nd and 3rd Gen's will be the same as 4th and 5th Gen 4runner's as well as FJ's.

Adding a true disco to a 1st Gen is pretty straight forward, and you'll see some gains there. Just how much you'll gain is questionable, and each person will have different results. By doing this you're limiting factor will now be determined by the coilover, CV, or ball joints. I'm not saying it will happen, but some "could" bind up a CV. This "could" also happen without running a sway bar.

Adding a disco to the 2nd and 3rd Gen's is not as easy. The design of the front sway bar will NOT allow you to run a full disco without causing some damage somewhere. People who experience a failure from the sway bar link in the front will often end up replacing CV boots, or an entire CV due to sway bar contact. If you want a disco for the front of these you'll need to make a sliding style disco. The will allow your sway bar to move freely to a certain point, and that point will prevent contact with your CV.

Now, here's my personal opinion. I always try to talk people out of disco's since I personally don't feel like they're needed, at least with 4runner's. Tacoma's may be a totally different animal. Disco's will require more maintenance to keep everything clean, and functioning as they should. If you live in a salt area that would mean more maintenance as well to keep the corrosion down. Disco's will tend to have some noise associated with them since the parts are meant to be easily removed. The gains are marginal, and that can usually be had with longer links.

Here is a progress update on my links:
Got most of the parts just waiting on a few smaller details to come in. But so far it’s looking good. Stay tuned for the end result and group buy.
Hopefully I can finish them this week and give em a good test run to see in any adjustments need to be made.

Is it going to have a locking nut? To lock the height so it doesn’t move while disconnected

Yes it will definitely have a locking nut. I'm still waiting on a few part to mess around with to find best configuration.

Be careful with that. Hopefully you plan on testing that prior to running a GB! I'm betting you won't like the outcome, and here's why.

First off, the design of the front sway bar on the 2nd, and 3rd Gen Tacoma will NOT allow for a full disco. The only way to run a full disco is to build a disconnect for the sway bar itself. Running those will cause either coilover damage, sway bar damage, CV damage, or all of those. Making the sway bar links are easy, but causing damage is not. If it were that easy I would have been making those 4 years ago. Keep in mind that the 2nd & 3rd Gen Tacoma has the exact same sway bar links are 4th & 5th Gen 4runner's and FJ Cruiser's. This topic has been widely covered on the 4runner, and FJ forums.

The design of the sway is the issue. The sway will not clear the coilovers so you can't swing it up out of the way. Therefor, it's going to hit your CV, and destroy it. The only way to use that style sway bar is to do something like what I have pictured below. That will allow you to run a standard link on one side, and a disco on the other.

Thanks for all the info and definitely before I offer these to anyone I will test it my self. I have been doing a lot of research and I'm trying to come up with a simple design that will be easy to use and wont cause damage to other parts. And at this time I'm only making it for my 1st gen Tacoma. Its a little easer to work with. I drove my truck with removed links for over 2 weeks and just pushed the sway bar up to the top and it stayed there with no trouble. Of course it will be better to have some kind of system to hold it in place that way it wont damage anything. but then again when I check if the sway bar came down it would only hit the link tab. Doesn't reach the coilover or the cv axle. Ill attach some pics for reference. If all goes well I will consider looking into other gens but for now I'm focusing on the 1st gens (01-04). Once I get closer to actually installing them Ill up load some pictures of how everything will be installed.

You won't have any issues on the 01-04 since the sway bar won't contact the CV.

Just wondering, what size heim joints are using on these?

I'm trying out a few options but so far I think the 3/8'' would be best option.

Up date on this is sway bar sucks!!!
I diched mine for a number of reasons.
    1st - It sucks
2nd - Its a pain to connect and un connect. Truck needs to be level otherwise your trying to flex the sway bar by hand.
3rd - There are 2 sides to this. With the links connected there is less travel so less "traction" off road. With links disconnected you get more travel but...
a.) cv angles become extreme and look like the travel needs to be limited with some straps
b.) way more rubbing is happening on the trails due to more travel

With my set up I have heavy springs up front so Im fine with out a sway bar and ok with the rubbing for now. Will eventually look in to getting some straps to limit travel a little.

While IFS, I eliminated the sway bar after I added the extended travel 2.5 ICON’s and TC UCA’s. It drove and worked well, even after I added a winch and Shrock Works plate bumper.
Now that I’ve completed a SAC, I still roll without a sway bar.
Mall crawlers may need them, dunno.
