Anything welding

Heres my latest addition. HTP invertig 221hd. Built the cart to house this and my hobart mig 140. I keep this machine at my shop untill i get around to installing a 220vac outlet in my garage.

 

Built my welding table today.

Told my manager I was teaching myself how to weld the other day so he let me weld some support legs up for our material rack. Just knocked a little bit of the rust off with a flappy wheel and welded em together. Pretty happy with how most of them turned out.

 

Did he give you a raise? LOL JK

 

That's how I notched the angles that I made my welding cart with. Done with an angle grinder.

I’m at a coal burner plant with 2 weeks left in the outage when I get a text with an offer to goto Maine for some work.

I call and get some details. Typical job. $33/hr and $100/day per diem

“So what’s the weld test?”

“Stainless mig”

*long pause while I’m thinking*

“Uh sir. I don’t want to lie to you. I don’t think I’ve ran much stainless mig if ever”

“Can you mig carbon steel?”


“Well yea...”

“Perfect. You can do stainless too. It’s all the same. I’ll get you a weld test scheduled in Houston so you don’t have to drive up here for it and you’ll get a call Monday with the details”


Lmaoooo fuck. Never know till you try but I get myself into situations sometimes ima give it a shot tho!

 

About the only real difference is the different grades and different fillers needed but that should not be a big concern of yours

voltages tend to be higher some places like a tri mix gas that welds hotter

just setting up the welder for any new jobs

 

Table sticks out way further than my tool boxes lol gott be careful when I back the truck in now.

I've been wanting to pick up one of those Jimbos garage gun holders! They look nice.

 

Burned through half a dozen or so of those excalibur rods trying slightly different settings and techniques. Still have a long ways to go but I feel like I'm starting to get somewhere with the stick welding.

It's oddly satisfying when you lay down a decent bead and the slag peels off in one big chunk with a slight tap.
