ALSO, You can tell when a man has crossed over the hill when he quits bragging about how much sex he’s getting in exchange for his MPG’s and lack of oil consumption. Hahahahahaha

I love people saying a lack of oil changes causes engine failure. Technically, you are correct, but 10k oci is not a lack of oil changes. Its what the manufacturer recommends. No, the manual doesnt recommend 5k oci for northerners, there is a very specific set of extreme conditions required for severe service and “living in the north “ is not one.

So yeah, this is a hill i’ll die on. I dont care that you are a mechanic and have rebuilt Jethro’s blown up chebby 350 that he didnt ever do an oil change on. You dont know better than the manufacturer that thrives exclusively on a reputation of durability and longevity.

My sister has a few different vehicles on her farm.
One time she asked me if she should change her oil in her Buick..
    It's a 1989.
I asked her how many miles are on it?
    She says : 156,000
I asked how long it's been since last oil change?
She says : AFAIK It's never been changed.
I said don't start doing anything now.

My 1st car was a high miles (for the period) 81 Chevy Camaro 305. The 305, was of course a dog, but ran fine.

I decided to do the 'right thing' by the old gal, and run a couple of quarts of engine cleaner through her, followed up with a serving a slick 50.

The result was immediate. A ferocious tap / knock. I learned a little something that day, and Summit Racing sold an engine.

if you don't change your oil on a weekly basis and use AMSOIL high performance full synthetic with a K&N oil filter you risk your engine having burnt valves and exploding within a months time

Hi. I'm the OP and I'm updating the status of the oil sludge on my 2017 Tacoma. I contacted the dealership twice to ask if they did change the oil and filter or not. If not, was there a reason. I never got their call back, they just don't care about it. So I changed the oil myself today. What a mess! Two of the 8 12mm bolts at the bottom plates were stripped or rounded. The oil was completely dark with precipitate. the bottom of the oil filter cap had a thick layer of brown sludge and seems like dealer never drained or cleaned it in the past two oil change. Also under the hood, the battery terminals has a lot green stuff that had never been cleaned. I was so disappointed and would suggest everyone doing there own basic maintenance. No one from the dealership cares about if your engine is clean and runs well. They will never let the oil drain for 30 min and may not even bother to remove the oil filter cap ... They overtightened the oil cap of my 4Runner and I broke the plastic cap in the last oil change. I replaced both oil filter cap with the metal cap as other users suggested.

Good grief. Firstly I don't care what anyone says - I'll stick to 5k oil changes. That's only 4 a year max with my driving habits.

I can't believe the negligence of this dealer for OP. This has me scared sh-tless of what I'm gonna be dealing with.

Were never going to know what happened here, but whatever it was, wasn't right.
Warranty out the battery at a different dealership and never take it back again.

Anyone knows how to clean the battery terminals? I saw someone spayed a chemical solution on them and wipe it off. Others may just clean with wire brush or sand paper.

Mix up some baking soda and water, apply it and scrub with an old tooth brush. It'll clean it and neutralize the acid.

The 10k oil change interval has nothing to do with the engineers at Toyota and better engines.

It’s the engineers at Mobil 1 and the oil
