What else is a good/easy upgrade for the A340 (for up to 350hp)? I've been reading about it not having enough pressure at higher horsepowers and the clutches slip/burn. I know the stage 2 kits get kevlar clutch upgrades and billet pieces but, once again, I believe that's for those above 800hp

So just a clutch, or buy/build for 800/custom install for auto.....sounds like a fun adventure.

Lol good and easy dont go together with what you are wanting! I would reccomend going for the 800hp kit right away. Save time and heartbreak

The transgo kit apparently increases the pressure that why I did it I was having a really slow 1st to 2nd engagement. The Kevlar clutches for sure and probably a nice fat trans cooler. Since your going a340f you already have a bigger fluid pan so alittle more cooling. If you creep on some Lexus forums you can find some info. Eventually I'm going to pick up a a340f and build it so I can convert to a 4wd. Also the a340f has an atlas 4 speed kit available.

All this talk of transmissions... I'm wondering what the 3rd gen's AC60E/F transmissions will put up with...

Someone in the OVTune turbo waitathon thread was asking and was replied Toyota uses it for a much more powerful vehicle overseas and wouldn’t be a problem.

"Waitathon" Good nickname. Tbh I ain't to enthused with the way he handles stuff. Imo he should have delayed any releases or indication of the product a couple more years.
But if I'm honest the OVtune on my stock truck got me better mpg (or atleast caused a mind trick that did lol)

I think too much hype. These guys thinking they're going to slap on a turbo kit and get massive amounts of power. Woe to him, they aren't going to pull their engines, swap rods and pistons. And on what, open deck engine? It's already moved from twin turbo to single turbo. I'm not hating on him, but there's going to be a mass exodus when those guys get a better idea of what they have to put into it.

And I aint building no 800hp transmission, I'd be lucky to get 350hp out my engine lol

Not to talk too much trash but I am pretty sure I did some googling a year or two ago when they hinted about a tune for the 2.7 and found a bunch of pissed off Mazda people complaining about the same sort of thing- vaporware that is hyped but never shows up.

I'm toying with the idea of turbo or supercharger on my 2TR more as a "OEM Tune" style thing- imagine if it was equipped that way from the factory. Reliability as a chief priority, reasonably efficient, and a nice "driveable" power band that isn't anything nuts.
Hit about 200HP and 225 TQ (crank numbers) and I would be thrilled to have it as a daily drive.
I'd really like to be able to run it on regular gas but that is probably the first thing that has to go if you wanna make that number.

And it's nice to see that the AC60s can hold up to about 300 lb-ft on "official" numbers that are usually pretty conservative.

When I first put the turbo on my truck I wanted it to feel like it was something that Toyota offered. It was a lot of fun for a few years.

    Now I want moar.

I have a feeling ov tune going to end up following Tor build but for a 3.5. If he just made a header and downpipe, let the buyer get a haltech to tune it instead of flash tuning that ecu. Pnp turbo kit isn't that easy on these newer motors.

Yeahhhhhh for me I was like hey this is pretty good ......I want more of it lol

it makes the truck feel like it doesn't have 33s on it and I'm undergeared

2TR with just 5psi is a completely different driving experience. It's climbing long steep grades on cruise 65mph at/below 5psi that would have me dropping into 4th and literally giving 100% throttle and maybe holding 55mph back when normally aspirated! I can actually accelerate when merging too.
This could be done for a reasonable price.

I'm an ex Mazda3 Skyactiv owner. This was back in '14-'15 that went down. I'm glad someone else finally did a bit of research and realized what I tried to say waaaaay back in the OV 2.7 thread, they'll deliver "something" for the bigger engines and screw the little guys.

What supporting mods did you need at 5 PSI? Gas grade, injectors, ECU, let me know some details! :D

The main thing really holding me back is the fact that my truck is a DD and I don't really have an allowance for downtime while I figure out fabrication on parts.

The setup I am imagining in my head is a little off the beaten path but what I would do is grab a reman IHI VF52 (2008+ WRX Turbo) which was mated with a 2.5L engine and made 256HP at about 14 PSI so I think the sizing would be right about spot on.

The disadvantage would be that all the flanges except for the cold side inlet would need custom fab...

    [IMG] [IMG]

Fortunately the aftermarket for these is massive so you can always mine ebay for used aftermarket goodies and then do a little :sawzall: on the flanges then a little :welder:onto your Toyota-based equipment.

Then once the turbo is there, run the charge pipe straight over the top of the valve cover with an air/water IC not entirely unlike this crazy dude from Aussie land did to a Hilux:

(hopefully a little less jank without lines and fittings exploding across creation...)

Then run the IWG on the VF52 with a spring set to about 5 psi (It's stock is set to... 7 I think but there's a solenoid that alters the pressure to hit higher boost) and have the air/water IC run its hoses to the front of the truck.

Toyota was nice enough to already give you holes and mounting points for the v6's tow package oil cooler, it would be downright rude not to use them! :D Plop a reasonably sized cooler there and a little spal fan over it, and boom...

Again, the big problem with all this is that it is a lot of custom fabrication and I would not have a DD in the meantime.:bananadead:

You have a built engine. Aren't you already pushing 10 psi??? What max CFM does you turbo flow, or HP is it rated for?
