So this morning I was heading to the grocery store going about 25 mph from a red light and I heard this loud snap coming from the passenger side of the truck. Now the truck didn’t shake or thud or anything when the noise happened. There was a car in front of me and on my right side.

I don’t know if it was from running over a rock that flew up and hit my undercarriage, something snapped on the truck itself, or if it was from the car driving next to me. So I pulled over into an empty parking lot and checked everything underneath the truck. Nothing looked out of place, so I went along my way. Went to the 2 stores, then I got home, I spent about an hour looking everywhere in the engine compartment and under the truck and still can’t see anything wrong. Keep in mind that the truck started fine each time after the stores, and drove fine about 55mph, it didn’t shake or anything. Temperature gauge is fine.

I checked the following during my hour long inspection:

    - LCA, UCA, all belts, shocks front and back, leaf springs, pretty much any hose I could see, tires, brakes, drive shaft, exhaust, I turned any bolt that I saw to see if they were loose or not.

Nothing is leaking and I even jacked up the truck to test the two front tires to see if spun fine or wobble (which they didn’t)(I.e. checked wheel bearings)

Anyone have any other advice on what I overlooked or may have missed in my inspection? Nothing looks out of the ordinary.

A stick with a nail in it maybe. Check your tire presure in the morning.

Most likely nothing, just something flying up and hitting the fender inner liner, rock or something metal, nut, bolt, screw. Or the car next to you kicked something up of the same sort and it bounced in the right spot on a body panel to create the snap, pop.
Just keep an ear on it and if it comes back or gets worse, then worry.

Don’t think I ran over anything since the truck didn’t go up and down like hitting a bump. Yes, blade fans are intact.

I had this same problem one day in my prerunner. Was driving about 30mph and hears a loud snap. Never felt anything. Stopped look around at everything but couldn't find anything. I had a spindle lift and coilovers though so i blamed the coils. Nothing ever came from it, drove fine untill it got wrecked.

Yeah, this has happened in the past as well for me and nothing ever came of all those times too. I’m probably just anal about my truck and want to be proactive. Guess I’ll find out over the next few days. My truck is pretty much stock in terms of suspension and such and I haven’t done anything to it in over a year besides oil change.

FYI: loud, electric-sounding "snap" inside the cab of my totally-stock, unmodified 2017 Taco. Started about 3 months ago. Happened 3 or 4 random times since. No funny smells, bumps, screen blips, or any other symptom. Happened after I got a new iPhone 12 Mini (may be a coincidence). Has happened with the phone wireless charging and without. Happened at least one time with a thunderstorm about 5 miles away (not charging the phone at the time). Unlikely to be a road strike or anything hitting the windshield since it only started happening recently, and it always has exactly the same sound and location. I hope somebody figures it out.
