    Hello,

Just a quick thank you to the forum members. After doing some searching on the issues here and checking other sources of information, I put together this video and people have been blowing it up with views.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86wZRC08Q7A

Trying to shed some light on the various issues. Let me know if you are still experiencing issues. I'd like to share those thoughts with their engineers.

    Thanks,
    Tim

Tim, what is your opinion of Consumer reports ranking and reliability ratings when it comes to the Tacoma?

Edit: is it true JD Power awards are governed by a marketing firm, so how unbiased is JD Power?

Simple because Toyota didn’t pay JDPowers. Remember the Silverado according to JD powers? Lol

    So far here:
    seeping diff
    Diff howl
    Clutch creak squeak
    A/C blower
    Engine stutter TSB.

All are minor to me if remediated correctly by toyota in the way of tsb.

I have heard that the latest model years are better. The engine and interior electronics have been flawless so far. (Reliable) I would buy this truck all over again just because of the manual trans option and experience outweighs the minor growing pains.
Not related, but the the most reliable vehicles I have ever had were early 2000s lexus. Flawless in everyway. Maybe luck.

Good video, I think most of us here knew what we were getting ourselves into when buying a third gen. Im curious to see the third gen praised for being the "best" taco when the the 4th gen launches just like all other past generations.

I have heard JD Powers is designed to influence consumers, not to be an unbiased party to help consumers.

Sorry, I didn't see these notifications. I've had a lot of comments about JD Power and I think there is a lot of misinformation out there. JD Power is a survey companies that collects data then sells the data. If that work, makes them a marketing company, then I guess they are. Personally, I see them as simply a business.

Consumer Reports is basically the same thing. They send out surveys, collect the data and then consumers buy this data through subscribing to their publications.

I find it interesting so many people seem to think CR is better than JD Power when they both basically operate about the same.

I'd also wonder what/how people think places like JD Power and Consumer Reports should operate. For example, should JD Power spend money to survey people, tabulate the surveys and then give the information away for free? That seems like a terrible business.

It seems to me, everyone is in favor of capitalism until they find a business they don't like the results from.

How exactly would a survey company influence consumers?

There are far too many answers to this question though. It is almost limitless. Not sure if you're serious.

Very interesting. Although I'm new to this generation of Toyota Pickups, Toyota pickups and I have a long history.

The question I have for you is, I just bought a 2016 Tacoma 4x4 Limited. Very low mileage and it was sold/first put on the road on 3/31/2016.

So these software updates for the engine and transmission, should I be looking to have my Tacoma updated and if so, how do I go about it?

Thanks, keep up the good work!

By making award$ and giving them out and having companie$ make a big deal about them. Then when they have clout $ell the award$ to the highest bidder.

Not just about software..there were/are tons of high frequency issues with these trucks...leaking 3rd brake lights, leaking timing covers, cps, diff howl, diff leak, rusting in doorsill, speaker cover
Rattle, leaf squeak and shims and more. These problems are occurring at a greater ratio than what should be acceptable by Toyota, and certainly the Tacoma over the past 3 years has not lived up to what customers expect in terms of QDR..and it shows in the number. I know and agree it’s luck of the draw and issues don’t happen to all, I also still like my truck, just some
Growing pains that have mostly been sorted out.

And 2nd gen did not have these issues plus more ? 2nd gen forum 1st page is riddled.
Sorry but a speaker grille and a rattle from a sticky foam, a few with cps, a diff harmonic vibration on some nor a $2 seal doesn't get me wound up. They are not widespread, you just read a few posts here and are blowing it totally out of proportion. What's your evidence of "higher proportion " / "numbers" ? Sales ? Smitty posts ? There are hundreds of thousands of these vehicles on the road.
I'm at 3 years with just a battery. My truck has been solid since day one and I read all posts here and know what to look at.
I had the tranny flash done for performance, but it was not a problem imo.

Idk? Based on the data evidence provided in the video, the 2nd gen did not have the same volume of
Complaints as the 2016 did. And the defects/unit ratio was higher for the 3rd gen transition. All cars have issues, the question is at what frequency. That is primarily how QRD is measured. In the video it looked like 2016 and prob early 2017 were historically bad QRD years for the taco.

Thanks for the great video, the one question so many 18/19 Tacoma owners have been experiencing that nobody can seem to get resolved is the rumble strip vibration that occurs at approximatly 20 mph during braking/ deceleration . Any input into that from the engineers would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise love the 3rd gen overall
