I'd rather stay with filters I trust ..... such as

    Baldwin

    Wix

    K&N

Yes US Marine, & that's exactly what everybody else does. Nobody has anything to base their decisions on, other than That's what my grandpa always used & he never had a problem, or that's what my mechanic uses, so I'm using the same thing, or the advertisement says these catch more dirt, & I like this one I wouldn't have one of those old cheap filters. I don't think anyone can really base their decision on anything other than that's the one they feel comfortable with.

I'll say the only filter I've ever seen fail was a K&N. My brother ran them on his 370Z and developed a leak after a few thousand miles. It turned out that the filter case inside the nut that is tacked on the end fatigued during pressure cycles and cracked.

I use the OEM filter on the Tacoma.

Any name brand filter and oil will do that. 1gr-fe is a rock. Super easy on oil and Toyota’s idiot light at 5k helps even more.

Oem(or any filter) is fine for 5k changes. If you want to extend your OCI move to a synthetic media filter like Mobil1, wixxp, or Fram ultra.

    End thread.

The only oil filter I have had fail was a $14.00 K&N.

K&N oil filters......the welded nut is meant for easy removal

Not for the installation process.......tighten by hand only....tightly

I use Toyota oem only for the oil filters. Buy oem by the case on ebay or Amazon.
I use M1 5w-30 from costco. They have sale on it once a year.
Air filters I usually shop around a lot.
I did the same thing on my 97 4runner for 20 years. 2002 prius for 12 years,
    2005 corolla for 5 years
    oem oil filters work.

It was only tightened by hand. I've worked around my brother my whole life and have never seen him use a tool to install a filter.

Further, the crack was inside the welded on nut, not at the tacked points themselves.

You mean Im not the only one that looks at his odometer and says "Its almost time to do X maintenance" and then a day or so later the light turns on? Down here people sometimes have what looks like a christmas tree on their dash lol

No doubt the OEM filters are good, Dolpan proved it, got 20 yrs on a 4Runner, 12 yrs on a Prius, & 5 yrs on a Corolla, all using OEM filters. That proves the OEM's are great. We replaced, the wife's, 23 yr. old, "87" 240SX Nissan in 2010, when the clutch gave up. It was showing 213K & the odometer didn't work for the last 7 yrs. I bought my used "82" Dodge Ram 50 4X4 in "84", It was 25 yrs. old when it broke a shaft in the transmission, we replaced it in 2007, had appx. 200K on it. Since back in the "60"'s I've always just used whatever filter was on the shelf, or whatever the Quick lube oil change place, or Wal-mart oil-change screwed on it. I guess it could be said that the OEM's are just as good as the mixture of filters I've used over the years., "OR". The mixture of filters I've used, over the years are just as good as the OEM's, as neither of us have had any filter problems. Like said earlier, Whatever you feel comfortable with will be fine, I promise.

My oil analysis was good to go using oem oil filter to 10k with Mobil 1 5w30 EP. Stick with oem, it’s good for 10k miles. Scientifically proven, end of discussion. Boom.

I second this. Napa gold is a wix filter for half the cost. I run Napa synthetic oil with a Napa gold filter
