image.jpg image.jpg Hey guys, I am new to the Tacoma world, just got a 2013 double cab a few weeks ago and have been going through fixing/adding things that need to be done or “want” done. I noticed a couple days after buying it the drivers door wouldn’t stay open, looked at the passenger one and found the problem, missing the door check. Now if it was just missing I could easily just buy a new one. It appears the check completely ripped out and tore out the screw holes. Is there any way I can fix this be it welding or some other means or am I pretty much SOL...? It isn’t a huge issue to me cause I am careful to catch the door before it swings to wide, but I don’t want an accident in the future to cause it bending something or breaking. Any help would be great. (1st Picture Drivers Missing, 2nd Picture Passenger Door)

 Looks like that was ripped right out of there. There's also some damage the front edge of the door skin it looks like. You could try finding one at a junk yard or replace the whole door. Replaceing the whole doir would be the easier thing to do but more expensive. Its up to how much time and labor your willing to put into it.

Ya I was thinking of a door, but the brown color is really hard to find and painting a new one I would be afraid of paint not matching to well. But ya not sure what caused the whole thing to rip out the holes as well..?

I have the same color truck as you and the paint from here http://www.automotivetouchup.com/index.htm matches almost perfect. Paint code is 4t3

If you dont feel like replacing the door right now how about slipping one of these through the hole and bolting it to the door.

Alright, I may have to try that, may do a little touch up in other small spots to test it out before committing to buying a whole door.

I actually didnt think about these, that isn't a bad idea for a temporary fix for the time being.

It was on flat ground at the lot and i was focused on other stuff to watch for that might be broken, definitely didnt think about checking the door catch, but ya it is definitely something I should have caught.

Bought from a used car lot(NEVER DOING AGAIN) and they were a pain in the butt to begin with. So no go with that plan unfortunately, but thank you. And ya I definitely want to get it fixed to bring that value back up, I don’t think I can file a claim with insurance since it happened before I took possession of the vehicle.

    Wow.
Is there damage to the door elsewhere? I can't imagine there isn't. The force needed to tear that component right out suggests something really ripped that door open hard. If by some miracle that is the only damage, a good body shop might be able to weld in a new part (and then paint the area but I imagine a new (or used) door + paint is the best route. I sure like the Pyrite Mica.

This has been posted as happening on here before to someone else. It probably didn't happen all at once. It was probably caused by allowing the door to swing open and hit the door check over and over and over again flexing the metal until metal fatigue reared its ugly head. It is truly unfortunate that the dealer didn't advise him of the issue before hand.

A good body shop should be able to manufacture a piece and weld it in place. Price would be the deciding factor.

yep just weld a small plate in there slightly bigger than the hole and redrill to the template of a new door check, problem solved

Damn, I hate when people slam the doors open or closed! Seeing some one throw it open always stresses me out more- haven’t seen this before, good luck! Do you happen to have any friends with a welder?
