    Just bought a 19 Taco last week and I need some assistance with a switch I have never seen before. ECT power, exactly what does that do?

    “electronically controlled transmission”

    It changes/raises your transmission shift points to make the drivetrain feel more zippy. The engine will wind out more before shifting. The idea is to use it in mountainous areas, winding roads, or towing when you want more throttle response.

    try it when driving round town. i drive with it on all the time. drive on a straight road at 35 or 40 MPH with ECT on the holding steady at that speed turn off ECT . feels like you poped a parachute out the back.

    Very interesting. I haven't messed with ECT mode. I think the truck is zippy enough for me without it. But what do I know? I'm just an old fart anyway . :anonymous:

    You are better off just adapting to the throttle curve and learning to drive the truck. I don’t press the button.

    It changes shift points quite noticeably.
    In the mountains here, if someone hit the button and even if there wasn't a light, I'd know within a few twists and turns.
    Sometimes I use it, sometimes I don't, but it's evident when it's on.

    As mentioned, it isn't sport mode...

    Without a load my truck just really doesn't require my attention.
    More that I fiddle out of monotony of the drive.

    On my truck its clearly noticeable and an improvement. Works well with my driving style. Using S5 on the highway with ECT on yields decent milege and improved throttle response. Throttle feels dead without ECT and using all 6 gears.

    ECT power for me is useless as the truck becomes unbearable to drive in the city with that on. Maybe if you were going up a steep gradient on a highway or something but even then the sequential mode is way better for this.
