Wondering if you guys have ever heard of these? I found some one Amazon and seeing if anybody had a review on them? It says up to 2015 however the 3rd gen should be the same exact setup as the 2nd for roof racks so I dont think that would be a problem.

That looks like it would make a shit ton of wind noise, and looks like it’s super cheap (China) materials. I’d pass, but just for looks it might be ok. I bet it will rust like a mofo within a year.

I am thinking about doing it lol, just to see how it is. It comes with a wind channel so as long as the wind noise is not super bad and everything fits together I can work with it. I may repaint it and do some blue Loctite with a lot of silicone on the bolts and holes for the screws but yeah I may buy it if I do I will let everyone know my thoughts. It will be used mostly for carrying surfboards and paddleboards.

I bought it, should be here between the 14th and 19th, I will make sure to take a lot of pictures and see how everything lines up. I will definitely let you guys know what is happening with it and update as needed with rust and whatever else, I am at the beach all the time so it should be a good test for it especially with the surfboards.

Since I am not a steel expert my plan is to see if it is magnetic or not. I know that sometimes stainless can be magnetic to a very small degree, however with the powder coating and such this should create a barrier, if the magnet sticks it is steel, if not I am going with it is stainless? Anybody have any better ideas without trying to use a chemistry set?

I just got the rack today. I am watching my son and girl friends daughter though until tomorrow morning so I will not be installing today. Shipping took about 4 days and the box is heavy as hell. Pics will be coming tomorrow or Sunday. With install and anything I found weird about it.

300 series, or austenitic SST is not magnetic. 400 series, or martensitic SST is magnetic. Generally, 300 series is more commonly used for sheet, bolt hardware, etc, so I would expect this would be 300 series if it is SST. But you couldn't rule out the chance that it's SST just based on magnetism. If you take a grinder to it, however, you'll see very few sparks if it's SST and lots of sparks if it's steel

So... bunch of problems with this thing. Here is the bad:

None of the hardware fit on the truck itself. The screws were too long and improper threading on them. I ended up using different bolts to be able to attach the roof rack to the truck.

The hardware is cheap, do not tighten to much or you are going to strip the bolts. They are also a weird size, both metric and standard would slip on them.

The roof rack came with some paint stripped off, but it looked like it was not even painted on from factory because it was a straight line on some of the bottom parts.

The front wing shakes, like I am saying shakes the whole truck shakes. At around 45 the truck started shaking violently and scared the crap out of me. I took it off and we welded a plat on the back of it, at 55 it now shakes like crazy. We now have it off and found out right where it shakes it (the little v cutouts). We are going to weld a plate to the back of it and paint it orange like my truck. I think that will look good and those V cut outs should not shake anymore

Has some bad wind noise around 45 and up, I can deal with it, however it is something that you may want to think about. I hope when we weld the V cutouts it will reduce wind noise, however that part is going to take a minute for my friend to do it.

It does not clean the antenna (not even close), I am thinking about putting spacers on the back to extend the back out past the antenna or just getting rid of the back piece, right now the back piece is not on it.

    The good:

It is strong, after I got the proper hardware for the truck the thing is very strong, I can shake the whole truck with it, stand on top of it, and everything else. It is a heavy beast, and everything does line up correctly.

It is a roof rack and it is cheap, I know the above tells about the problems however if you can handle all of that stuff it is a lot cheap than many other racks like it out there.

I will updated with pictures soon (once we get the front air splitter on it) and show everybody how it looks on the truck (it really does look good on the truck even without the front air splitter on it).

So the hardware I used was actually motorcycle fairing bolts that I still from a while back. They are stainless steel and they fit perfectly. Here are some pictures but still doing the welding and painting.20190317_150515.jpg 20190316_191837.jpg
