I’ve heard some things about those coils. They’re something I’d leave to someone else to mess with.

Ehh. I’d rather have an independent system do the lifting versus putting it on the garage opener.

I’m not taking advice from you after seeing how you deal with coil springs.

Ours has snapped twice in 16 years. Loud pop, then the door crashes down real hard. The entire lift mechanism gets real loud in the time peiod before it breaks, kind of a 6 month warning I guess. Then the repair man installs a new one in like an hour, then charges you $400.

That’s one of the things where I wouldn’t be mad for paying labor. It’s like installing that 240v outlet for my compressor, I could’ve done it easily but I can’t shut off my main panel so I’d have to work on it live. I was happy to pay the electrician to do it for me.

Been there done that, twice. Easy peasy if you have an attic above your garage. Anywhere else in my house, Id be paying. The two hots coming from the street are always live, but you should be able to shut off the panel to add a breaker. Just dont touch the two main power wires.

So yesterday I was at IKEA with my fiance and some guy I walked past asked me "What is Low Range Offroad?" (I was wearing my Low Range sweatshirt). I told him and then he proceeds to tell me he makes universal skid plates. So I kinda got intrigued and come to find out he is supposedly the guy who invented the hitch mounted skid plate! Skidmark4x4 is his company. I am sure many of you have seen these before. Ended up talking to the guy for nearly an hour until they came over the PA system to tell us the store was closing lol. Really nice guy, told me that he would give me a hefty discount when I order one and if I come pick it up and his shop is 10 minutes from my office so it works out perfectly. He has the digital camo FJ in this video.

I’m going off the main panel with the two hots from the street, only way to cut power to that set of breakers is to pull the whole electric meter off.

Something sounds fishy/not up to code there. FH10OCT_ADDCIR_02.jpg
Theres what a main panel "should" look like. The two A's (line voltage) cant be shut off. But if you flip C, it cuts the rest of the panel, allowing you to safely add a circuit.
Edit: Pretty sure the NEC wants you to be able to cut power to the whole house if need be, so if you dont have "C", as what your describing, theres been something fishy going on.

Here it is. I can shut off the sub panel that controls the house, but I can’t shut off power to any of these breakers since there’s no cutoff. This panel is only for 240v service.

The electrician told me “The only way to shut power to this part of the panel is by yanking the meter.” He added the 240v outlet with that panel live.
