Ok party people I need recommendations on a dash cam. Shoot

 

I just bought the Blackvue DR590W-1Ch. from Amazon. They also have it available with a rear camera too but I only got the front. It was really easy to install and set up, plus you can wire it up to have a “parking mode” where it’ll record when it detects motion, or any impact.

 

How has it been for you this far?

 

It’s been good, no issues at all. I took some time and read up on a few other that were mentioned, plus saw some reviews on YouTube, and this one had plenty of positive reviews. It has an app that will link up through WiFi, and you can view all the footage/save it to your phone really easily as well. It records in 1 minute clips so it’s easy to find the specific clips you want. This is the one I got, but like I mentioned, they also offer the bundle with the rear camera as well

My setup is super simple. Mobius action cams (wide angle lens in front and standard rear). Wired to come on when the truck is "ACC on" and constantly records on their own separate 64 GB mini SDs. Gives me about 10 hours each in 1080p but I carry spare memory cards just in case. I also have a switch wired in to turn the cameras on when the truck is off if I park somewhere sketchy or am away from the truck during a hike.
No frills camera, just straight recording and mediocre audio. I didn't want a traditional "dash cam" because I feel like the extra screen would be a distraction while driving and especially an annoyance at night. Plus, once you get rid of the extra BS like GPS and motions sensors, the cameras are really small and out of the way and don't call to much attention to themselves.
One extra thing that's pretty cool is that I can dismount and use them like a go pro if I wanted, which I've done on several occasions.
Under $200 for everything including both cameras, mounts and wiring.

Johnston had mentioned that their access had been "intentionally" slowed (post has mysteriously been deleted) so it was a pain for him to check things on here. I wouldn't be surprised if they just said fuggit and closed their accounts and moved to more "independent" pastures where they can roam a little more free.
