I beg to differ. Just because other people have had bigger holes that that, doesn't mean it's not a giant hole.

You really shouldn't even be driving the thing on the road like that.

But that's just, like, my opinion.

What is interesting then is that they passed the inspection on it when they fixed the frame as well, last month.

You keep saying they "fixed" the frame. I don't think that word means what they think it means. You said you've have this truck a couple weeks, right? That amount of rust doesn't show up over night - they didn't "fix" anything.

And if it actually passed a government inspection like that: Either 1) I have higher standards than the government, or 2) the inspector was inept, which is totally impossible because: government. (and I work for the government)

Yeah, that's not fixing the frame. That's stopping halfway through the repair.

I would for sure go back to that dealer and read them the riot act. That's complete BS they told you they "fixed" it.

This is where you have pull. That hole did not form within the past month. Head back to the dealer and ask how it was inspected. Similar scenario happened to a friend this past year in PA, vehicle was taken back and the inspection station went a few months without a license.

it seems most of the 'used' dealers operate like ..... sometimes
perhaps your state has some protection laws that you can get help with this?

i recently took a small out of town trip to check this one out

    https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/inven...d=true&filtersModified=true#listing=234096158

the panels and rear bumpers were rotted through, it was in the back lot buried under over a foot of snow so I did not even bother to check underneath
not even sure how they came up with a $2200 asking for it
it's probably under a lot of flood water now from the past week here

VA State law I found reads as follows...

"19VAC30-70-120. Frame, engine mounts, coupling devices and emergency chains. Inspect for and reject if: 1. Frame or unitized body of any motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer is broken, cracked, bent or damaged at any location, including any welded joint and/or is rusted or corroded to the point the frame is weakened as to reasonably constitute a hazard during the operation of the vehicle."

Yeah, that sounds like they are not being honest about much, if anything. From the look of this statute, it doesn't sound like your truck should have passed, so either they paid someone off, or falsified the records.

This is getting more and more fishy.

I kinda half expect the whole operation to be gone by the time you get there after work, lol...

I would also start researching either legal services or maybe even contact your insurance company since they are the ones who would be responsible for paying for the thing...

In CA a dealership or private seller can not sell a vehicle to another party (unless it's from one family member to another) without having proof of a recent smog test and that it passed...if the vehicle can't pass smog, it can't be sold.

I say this because here in CA we don't have 'safety inspections' like some states do, just smog inspections...but I wonder if the same rule applies with regards to the safety inspections in your state. If they do, then you have a case against that dealership and the sooner you act on it the better, or they can try and pull the "that rust/hole wasn't there when we sold it" card.

I bet if you made a thread for the frame you want to sell, some east coaster would buy it

I think you underestimate how badly some people on the east coast would like a CA rust free frame for their beloved 1st gens that are quickly becoming paper weights. As long as it's cheaper than buying one from Toyota I'm sure you could sell it.
