Totaled truck ideas

Recent storms put a tree my truck and it’s looking like it’ll be totaled. 2006 trd off-road, 2wd, 169000 miles. Runs great. Pretty new Dakar springs with 5125 shocks. Camper shell unharmed, blue in color. However, shell is not originally from a Tacoma, but a Colorado I believe. If totaled, I’m thinking to part it out. Please give advice/opinions.

 

It doesn’t look that bad. On the interior with that piece hanging down, just clip those wires close to the roof. Exterior needs a new windshield and some wax. Roof, nobody will see. Hood, use a toilet plunger to suck out those dents. Done!

Don’t make it seem worse than it is.

 

These are the replies I figured I'd get, almost didnt even ask this question because of this. Just found out it is totaled. The whole roof is smashed about 8", so windshield cannot seal at top. Toilet plunger doesn't fix, thanks though. Very helpful.

It can be repaired

 

Terrible maybe return to stock before it gets hauled off for the next taco or sell the parts to recoupe some money.

I think parting out and selling is usually more of a hassle than its worth.

 

Seriously, bang out the dents as best as you can and make it a trail rig....

 

It will take a tremendous amount of work to repair for a good looking daily driver if you have the time and skills. Probably just let it go or make a trail rig out of ii if you can.

 

Thanks Clymber and mattcowsmasher. This is what I was thinking, but have never done anything like this so I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. I don't have enough posts to sell anything on Tacomaworld, but it'll probably be on east texas craigslist soon.

 

That seems like a lot of damage for a 2006 in the insurance companies mind I'm sure. See what you can keep for yourself that you can use on your next Tacoma.
This sucks buddy. But hopefully you end up okay with your insurance company .

 

Take insurance money for total, buy it back

I'd get the roof pulled, windshield replaced with extra caulk up top. Order a new hood from rockauto for 90 plus shipping. Rattle can it black. Have a couple extra grand left over to make it a really really good offroader. Don't have to worry about scraping up the sides or anything now, salvage title means I'm never selling.

 

Yeah, its right on the border of being totaled vs worth repairing. I just don't think it'd be worth trying to get it weather tight again. I'd drive it with the hood area like that, but the roof/ceiling is really low now and there's gaps at the doors and windshield that I think would be pretty troublesome. I couldn't care less what it looks like, I mean I've got a poorly fitting, mis-matched camper shell on it. I think I'm taking insurance money and buying it back, like whatscp is saying. And again, I really do appreciate all of yalls input on this. You're all saying what I was suspecting to be true, just wanted a quick sanity check.

 

if its totaled take the insurance money but sell me those tires/rims

 

@BillsSR5 My wife's got a 4runner and she needs new tires so I may put them on there, so we'll see...but, if you're local (east texas) private message me and we can talk about it...also, am I allowed to talk about selling stuff at this point? I don't have 50 posts and I don't wanna get banned.

 

Anyone here have a convertible Tacoma? Cut the whole roof off, remove the doors and put on a roll cage...a Tacoma wrangler.

Buy another totaled truck that does not have damage in your areas,and switch the parts over.

 

OP, what are the plans for a new rig?

 

Not sure on the new one. Would definitely like another Tacoma, and 4wd this time (regretted that from the beginning). But, my wife's 4runner has almost 250k miles on it. Still runs great, but would like to get her something newer. At least temporarily, I'll probably drive the 4runner and get her something else. Unless someone knows of a deal on a 4x4 double cab taco, I think I will be taco-less for a while.
