stock, I don't think there is a tune available for our ECUs, or at least not one that works...I think OVtune is working on one for later model 1st gens so they say. You have to run a piggyback setup if you want to go that route, I have the URD 7th injector module that controls the 7th injector but that's it as far as aftermarket fuel mods/tuning goes

 

There is no after market ecu, you have to get a piggy back from URD if you wanna tune

I mean you probably can get a custom stand alone ecu but thats$$$$$$

I think yhe piggy back does a little bit. Its not perfect. And not super tune able

 

It's about $450 to build your own megasquirt 380 to use a built microsquirt. You're not entirely on your own but you're mostly on your own for the wiring at least. Good news is there's lots of support for megasquirt and microsquirt for tuning and you can use your stock ECU is a piggyback so you don't throw codes and your emissions still works

 

You should ask @Empty_Lord i think he plans to do something custom with his fully built v6

 

Boomfab or whoever it is makes plug and play harnesses for these trucks too

I've referenced this link from a 4runner forum for customizing the 7th tune in the future and it looks you have two Maps to work with, map A controls timing calibration and map B controls 'injector control'

 

Yeah you can get a boomslang harness. But it's not really universal it supports the older megasquirt units. the most fully-featured megasquirt that can do knock tuning and self learning I think it's closer to $1,200 and that's the one that that harness supports

 

Have you played with your timing control? a little bit of timing retard in the right place can save you a lot of timing retard when the computer freaks out because it pings

 

I think it has to be done all on a computer, urd gives you the software for the tuner, though idk how easy it is
