Only for that era. The Cummins was a star compared to the competition, in 1991. It made more power, had better fuel economy, and was a lot less fussy in cold weather than either Ford's or Chevy's diesels. It's still less powerful than a modern gasser, but it makes all 400lb/feet at around 1500 RPM so it was a towing machine (again, for the day). But, it's also a vintage diesel, which means it's very diesel-y by today's standards.

Can anybody tell me what this red mark is on my exhaust gasket I got from dealership?
It’s the same on both sides. Does it mean it goe in a certain position?
    Thanks

Also this was what was fastening this section of pipe flanges together . A self tapping bolt?

:notsure:. New hardware goes in perfectly

Edit: disregard the red mark question.

Not a self-tapper, just a MAThread bolt. That weird tip corrects misalignments so the bolt doesn't crossthread. Some of them can correct something like 15-20 degrees of misalignment.

    Basic example:

Yeah, I agree, for the day, they were at the top of the pack, but compared to a responsibly tuned 12 or 24 valve Cummins, it doesn't even come close. I absolutely love that era of the Cummins diesel.

Working on your back really sucks. I was having trouble trying to undo some of the hangers so I can separate the flange and change the gasket. I refastened it with new hardware for now. So I will just deal with the noise and bring it to my neighbors and put it on the lift on Saturday and go through the whole thing and get it done.

They look pliers, but one jaw is shaped like a fork, and the other is bent to push the hanger rod through the fork side.

    Edit:

But, unless you're working on exhaust all the time, they're not worth the $20-30 to buy a set. I've always just sprayed the hanger down with penetrating oil, jammed a flathead screwdriver through from the back side, and used the screwdriver blade to lever the hanger rod out. :notsure:

My dad was a mechanic so we have em in the tool box. I've found channel locks to be the next best option for removal. Penetrating oil works wonders, they hate moving when dry lol

Hauled some bass this weekend. Was the first time I was able to get out ice fishing this year and damn was it a good day. The biggest bass was about 18" and 3.5 lbs. All in all I think we had 8 bass roughly the same size and a few pickerel. @m603holden if I'd been thinking I would have invited ya up

    I noticed.
I also have to remove the hangers nearest the muffler to allow me to move it over and work on removal of gasket. No biggie now. Also gotta prop it up with a jack stand (if I decide not to wait to get it on lift. I’m a little impatient sometimes ) so it doesn’t sag too bad and cause possible issues

    14.1, according to the picture...
Which is pretty close to the last couple of tanks; they've hand calc'd in the 13.5-14.5 range, since I haven't been hauling the plow around. I figure it's not bad for a short commute on winter blend gas with 700lbs of weight in the bed.

Not at all. That's about where I'm sitting for the winter also with similar weight in the bed.

I do like that customizable gauge cluster, for me to get all that info, I'd have to cycle through 3 or 4 screens :anonymous:

It's handy. When I'm plowing I switch over to one that shows oil pressure & temp, transmission temp, and coolant temp instead of MPG's. Serves the dual purpose of letting me keep an eye on the 'vitals' at a glance, and hides the fact that I'm only getting 10-11MPG
